Hi Pricescopers,

I am in a dilemma and need all your ladies advices! I am choosing between these two Novos

1) 1.04, VS1, color I: $14,300, Cut/polish/Symmetry: E/E/VG
2) 1.35, VVS1, color I: $15,500, Cut/Polish/Symmetry: E/E/VG

The price difference is $1,200, but visually it makes a difference with the additional carat. I know color and clarity mattered a lot but I wanted to find a ring that balance price, and the 4Cs.... Please help!

Love the Novo. That was a current obsession of mine...

I guess it depends on what carat size diamond she would rather have....larger or smaller? And your budget.....is $1,200 difference a little overboard for you, or can you afford it without issues?

Ditto what Dream Girl said.

However with clarity, you don''t really need to go up to VVS1. I personally have an eyeclean 2.73 K SI cushion. Whichever she wants though!

I would message the Admin ("Report Concern") and ask to have this thread moved to RockyTalky. You will get more responses there.

I second that. Up the color, down the clarity. Eye clean is eye clean.

I just found this site not long ago and registered, let me see if I can change the category still.

Well, when I look at both side by side, I cannot tell the diference. Sorry there is a refernce error in the first ring. it should be Color G, not color I!

1) 1.04, VS1, color G: $14,300, Cut/polish/Symmetry: E/E/VG
2) 1.35, VVS1, color I: $15,500, Cut/Polish/Symmetry: E/E/VG

I don''t mind paying that extra $1200 more, it''s still within the budget. The only difference is whether I should go for color or size.

You won't be able to change the forum once you've posted something. Only the Admin can do that. If you want to move your thread, go ahead and hit "Report Concern" and ask them to move it. Otherwise, the wonderful ladies in this forum can give you their opinions. In RockyTalky, you would get more expert opinions--don't know if you want that or not.

Here are my thoughts. Is this ring for you or for someone else? If it's for someone else, ask her what is more important to her--carat weight or color? I'd personally go for the higher carat weight, but I like larger sizes, and to me, that .3ct difference would be significant. However, I'd also be concerned that the I color stone might show too much color for the wearer's tastes, if they are color-sensitive. I haven't compared colors on the Novo myself, so I really couldn't tell you if the I would be a good choice or not. Finally, I wouldn't pay the premium for the VVS grade; VS2 is almost always eye-clean, and it is three grades lower! Especially with a brilliant-cut stone, you will not be able to see the difference between a VVS1 and a VS1 or VS2, but you will be paying the difference.

One more thing: are you sure you have your heart set on the Novo? If you do, then go for it. If you don't necessarily, I would suggest you look around at some of the Pricescope vendors for your ring. For example, Mark at Engagement Rings Direct is widely known for his ability to select amazing cushion-cut stones. If you would be interested in looking at other vendors, post a query in RockyTalky, and a bunch of experts can guide you to something that will be the best value for your money. Tiffany rings are beautiful and of good quality, but you do pay a pretty hefty premium for the brand. If you wish to look into other vendors, you can find something of similarly good or better quality for a lower price. I'm not trying to talk you out of getting the ring you love, but it's always good to know about other options.

Best of luck with your purchase.

Thank you for your instant response! I know going through other vendors will definitely save me a lot of $$, but her heart sets on Tiffany Novo when we went to the store together.

I did ask Tiffany to search for 1.2-1.3, color H, VS clarity, but I was told they dont have anything currently in that range. It''s just hard for me to believe a brand as big as Tiffany do not have inventory.

Just a quick question, do you know what is the price difference between VS1 vs. VVS1, or VS2 vs. VVS2? I noticed color grade cost more than clarity.

I really couldn''t tell you; that is a question of pricing at Tiffany. At other vendors, it may be a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars, depending on the stone. The key on clarity for me is that I don''t want to pay for something I cannot see. In choosing a diamond, I would pick the lowest clarity grade that would be eye-clean. I believe that VS2 is the lowest clarity grade Tiffany sells, so I would go with that if it were me choosing. I can''t really speak to color grade difference costing more than clarity differences; they are two different measures of quality. I''m not sure it''s a fair comparison.

Maybe talk to her about what she would prefer--the Tiffany name, or a larger stone of similar quality? Some ladies will prefer the former, some the latter; I think it''s important to make an informed choice.

The lack of inventory surprises me. A sales associate at the Tiffany''s near me (a relatively small store) informed me that if they didn''t have the carat weight or size of a band I wanted, she could call it in for me. I would expect they would do so with an engagement ring. Maybe talk to a manager at your Tiffany and see if there''s anything they can do for you. Maybe someone else who is more familiar with Tiffany can chime in and tell you what their standard practices are.
