Hi,

I''m new to this site and diamond hunting. Did some research, so bear with me. I need help on deciding if this is a good diamond for the price. Here are the details:

Weight- 1.1
Dimension: 6.62mm x 6.60mm x 4.07mm
Table- 57%
Crown Height- 14%
Pavilion- 45%
Color- D
Clarity - IF
Finish/Polish - Ex/Ex
Cert- IGI
Cost: 6,700 - after bargaining

Cut Advisor stated that the Pavilion is too deep, but from visual examination, it sparkles and fire like crazy. I don''t even see the dark lines from top view due to the claim of deep pavilion causing loss of lights.

I think it is a good deal, but want to make sure about the cut being ideal.

Please HELP!!!

With the price tag about 2/3 of the lowest to be expected... I bet this sounds like a deal

SOmehow, I do not get the same result on the HCA: for 61% depth, 57% table, 14% crown and 45% pavilion, I see these: "Good" light return, "Very Good" spread and "fair" for the other two. Which does tally with the appearance of a brilliant stone and a good deal.

True enough, if one wants to play around with those numbers, than a shightly shallower pavilion would have pushed this in the prefferd HCA range. 9is this what you mean by saying that the pavilion is too deep?)

This could mean that either #1 the estimated percentages on the IGI cert tell a worse story than they should due to averaging and measurement error, or #2 if you want a D-IF ideal out of this piece, it could turn ut to be an excellent candidate for a recut (definitely worth, given the starting price).

From my part, sincere congratulations for the DEAL

Hello mmore

As a non expert, I plugged in your numbers into the Holloway Cut Adviser. #1 is 1.0 which is OK, but read the part where it says most people MAY like a score of 1.5 HCA.Diamond#2 I could not get a score as some number is incorrect from your post. #3 comes back as 3.9 HCA with the warning that it might be a fish eye. From the most of the posters here and from my own experience, an EGL certificate is not very good, the most stringent lab is AGS and GIA. A few EGL stones are very nice, most are not that good in my limited opinion. I am guessing that you found all these stones in a mall. Start reading the tutorials on the front page first. Knowledge is power. Most on line vendors have their own tutorials too. All are very informative, Nice Ice.com is the most entertaining of all!!!Keep looking in my opinion. Try using the known HCA button and then pick your color and clarity that you want. Ideal H&A diamonds blow "cheap" EGL diamonds into the weeds!Personally I would go down in size and get quality rather than get a poor sparkling one carat diamond.Let's see what the experts on this forum say.

I have serious reservations about accepting an IGI cert for anything, but especially for a D-IF.

At 6,700 your stone is 64.99% back of Rap, which means it is priced at about 1/3 of the list price, that is not 1/3 off, but one-third of! This deal is WAY too good to be true and this gemologist smells a huge rat. (Rap on this stone is $19,140.00)

Get a confirmation of the cert, preferably with AGS or GIA, but if it comes back as a D-IF from one of those labs then by all means buy the stone and sell it to me for a very nice profit. I will NOT be holding my breath, and I suggest you take measures to protect yourself.
