Hi everyone,

I realised I still have the diamond from my original e-ring sitting unused and I’m trying to think about what I can do with it. Think hubby will be on board as we always said we should do something with it, plus it’s my 40th this year and it’s also our 20 year relationship anniversary.

It’s a very small stone by PS standards, I haven’t found the appraisal but I think it’s roughly 0.43 and H colour from what I remember. It’s a modern stone and I initially through of adding it to my e-ring to turn it into a three stone, but my e-ring solitaire is an OEC so that might look odd? The OEC is also an I so not as white.

I then thought a stand alone ring might be better as a ‘new’ piece that I can swap with my e-ring, so am now thinking of a graduated five stone with this as the centre? We used diamonds from a brooch that was my grandmother in law’s and there are a couple I could use as the smallest stones, they measure around 3mm. As these are smaller I hope it won’t matter visually that they are older? Then I need to decide on the inbetween size - maybe something around 4mm/0.3ct?

Any thoughts?

I second a pendant! They are classy and can be worn in any situation :) every jewelry lover should have one!

Pendants are really lovely but I’m not sure how often I’d wear it. I have some lovely necklaces but I rarely remember to stick them on, usually just for special occasions! It is a good idea though.

The beauty of a diamond solitaire pendant on a simple chain, is that you can wear it 24/7, with shorts or jeans and a t-shirt to an evening gown and everything in between.

Yes that’s true, would it be ok to sleep in? I’m a lazy jewellery wearer and sleep with my rings and earrings in! I take my rings off to shower but that’s it!!

I realize this might be 'heresy' but I wear my journey pendant 24/7.

I shower and sleep in my 0.63 diamond solitaire necklace, as well as some of my rings/earrings depending on size. It only comes off to clean once a week or so (or before date night or family gathering etc.)

Yes, get a nice simple pendant made and if you choose you'd only need to take it off to clean it! I think that's more common than people realize :praise:

What about a three-stone ring with diamond as center and your and DH's birthstones on either side?

Ok that’s sounds doable to me! Is there a particular kind of setting that lends itself to being worn a lot or would it not make much of a difference? Or metal choice?

I hadn’t thought of that, will have a look for some examples. I’m May and hubby is June so that would be an emerald and pearl.

I vote for pendant. And yes, many people, including me, keep them on 24/7. I prefer pendants that slide but others like their stone in a fixed pendant style. And you could do bezel or prongs.

Ok thanks, it’s good to know they can be worn 24/7, that’s right up my street! Will have a look at bezel and prong settings.

I would do the pendant

I would take ALL those diamonds and create a DBTY necklace <3 They're beautiful!!!! OR make myself a snazzy ankle bracelet.

That would be amazing! We’re sharing the diamonds with my brother in law (when he’s in the position to use them) so I have to be careful which ones and how many!

A question about fixed versus slide for the pendant - I had a look at necklaces I wear and most are fixed. I know that I need to reposition them from time to time which can be irritating. However, I think the reason I started buying fixed is because I remember being annoyed by a sliding pendant, as the clasp would always travel down to the centre as well as the adjustment part of the chain - is there a way of avoiding that?

Another support for a pendant, especially a floating stone design, so that it wobbles as one moves.

DK :))

I have a fixed pendant that doesn’t move, FWIW. I think it’s because it’s a halo pendant with a flat basket (so it’s stable and heavy enough to stay put). Also my chain is 15”, which I think also helps.

That’s reassuring. I’m leaning towards a bezel design which should add some weight to it and hear you on the flat basket.

I think generally, unless you do something like the heavier halo, either the clasp of the chain will wander a bit, or the stone that is fixed will wander a bit. I guess it's which you prefer to reorient. I find that although the chain clasps do travel some, I seem to have to adjust the position of my fixed stones more than the chain clasps on my sliding bezels. Also, the shifting of the fixed stones are more noticeable even if they have only shifted one way or the other a small amount, whereas the travelling clasp is only noticeable if it makes its way to your front which seems to be a longer distance to travel. That's just a long away of me saying I think I adjust the clasp less frequently than a fixed stone.

Yes ok, thank you that makes sense. I think I would need to look at the clasp and decide on how to have adjustment on the chain.

The pendant I have with the clasp that travels also has this adjustment, so it is really noticeable when it moves -

But another pendant I have just has a simple extra ring inserted into the chain which would be much more discrete if it moves -

I have a fixed bezel pendant and I wear it 24/7. Shower, swimming, etc. It’s yellow gold and low maintenance! At this point I feel weird when it’s not there!

so you want a chain that is adjustable length? If so, I would think the one in your second photo would be the best for that.

That’s great to hear! Do you find it moves much? Also is it ok to ask if it’s 14k or 18k gold? I’m thinking 14k would be more durable?

Yes I think it would be good to have the option to adjust. I was thinking the second one would be better too.

You’ve all been so helpful, thank you. Just one last question - which metal would be better to use for a pendant? White gold or platinum?
