Not sure if I posted this in the right place- but the ring has an aquamarine so here I am.

My darling husband bought me this ring for Valentine’s Day! I love it! However, I’m also terrified that my fingers will outgrow it one day. He rarely buys me jewelry so I’d love to wear this daily and close to forever. So I’m thinking to exchange for a size that can fit my right hand middle finger.

My husband says: all good, just wear it as long as you can and enjoy it as is! (It currently fits my ring finger on my left hand.)

It is a rather pricey ring and clearly could not really be resized down the line. What do you think I should do? I am so eager to wear it ASAP!! 5468C424-1E73-4B93-B594-9BF4D226CEA0.jpeg

If you generally wear your wedding band and/or engagement ring on your left hand ring finger, then I don't know how much wear this new ring will get, since you say it only fits your left hand ring finger. If that is the case, then yes it makes sense to exchange it for the size that fits a different finger.

If you don't currently wear rings on your left hand ring finger, then you can wear this new ring on that finger.

I agree the new ring would be difficult/expensive to resize, so do please ensure you have it in a ring size that allows you regularly wear it.

If you want to be able to wear it your whole life, yes, I would consider getting a more universal size if I were in your place, especially since it's a possibility in your case. Do you have experience with how your fingers change size as you gain/lose weight? Objectively that's the main thing that will cause your finger to outgrow the ring, not counting everyday swelling due to heat and so on.

For me it goes LH ring finger -> RH ring finger -> LH middle finger -> RH middle finger, so whenever I want a ring I'll be able to wear regardless, I aim for the size that fits in the middle when I'm at my regular weight. This way it will still fit whether I lose or gain, just on a different finger. But it's individual for everyone, so only you can accurately judge which size will allow you to keep wearing your ring on different fingers regardless of the way your body changes over the years.

Thank you! I agree with both of you. I think I will get either half a size up to wear on my right hand forefinger, or up enough to wear on my right middle finger. I want to enjoy this ring always. Thank you!

I love the ring !
Can we see a hand shot ?
Please ;-)

I agree with your logic about a bigger size for increased versatility -- and wearing it on whatever finger currently fits best.

A well-loved ring that is not built like a tank is not a forever thing. Most rings posted on this forum are pretty ephemeral. Yes, we all have seen the Edwardian treasures that somehow survived 100 years unscathed. But they were either seldom worn or were worn by those who had someone to do all of their labor for them.

That’s a really good point and something I will have to work hard at keeping in mind.
