Hello all!

We're looking for a medium blue, around 6mm, square emerald blue sapphire! I've gone through thousands of ebay listings and nothing has even remotely come close. I don't like asking for help because of lurkers, but this time I really need it!

Any advice would be gold! :))

TIA

Square shaped sapphires are particularly rare. I'd recommend working directly with a cutter.:)

Good luck!

I don't think I've ever seen a square emerald sapphire. You'd have more luck looking for a square cushion. Otherwise, I agree with RSN, you'd do best going to a cutter directly. Good luck!

I believe I've only seen less than 5 square step cut sapphires, almost all of them custom precision cut. Since you need it to be 6 mm as well, I concur with the rest that your best chance of getting one is to contact a lapidary directly. I would caution to select a stone with a medium tone and lighter else the steps will not be easily seen and appreciated.

Those shown below were custom cut by Jeff White as examples of square step cuts I've seen. There are other variations done by other lapidaries.

Do you mean something like this? I think the dealer who sold me the sapphire called it a corner cut emerald. Ugh I can't remember it was years ago and before I found PS. I really wanted an asscher cut sapphire but didn't know about cutters back then so I went through a sapphire dealer in Thailand (we were living in Asia at the time). You will find most sapphires are rounds or ovals- Step cuts just don't seem to be popular.

I love Jeff's sapphires and he is on my dream list to get a large one from, but be prepared to spend $$$$$ for him :(sad

I think Adzia on Etsy has some, though I don't know the treatment. But I've seen them in her settings before.

Please do update us when you receive it. It looks quite dark in the pictures with no straight on view.

I hope that works out for you. It looks in the photos like it may be a bit dark -- I can't see the asscher cuts -- but maybe in hand it will show better. If treatment is important to you, I notice nothing about it is mentioned in the listing.

Looking forward to photos & your feelings when it arrives!

SarahBear, is that your ring for sale with JBEG?! I've been eye-ing it non-stop!

Bought a stone off Etsy. I'll let you know how it turns out! :D

Yes it is  I love the ring but I just don't wear it anymore so I put it on cosignment.

if the Etsy one doesn't work out for you I would also check out Israelie Rose. I have noticed they have some step cut sapphires on their site from time to time. I can't guess at their quality but at least they will give you options.

Honestly, if it doesn't work out with this stone I think we'll just buy your ring lol. You'd describe it best, can you see the step cuts in it or is it too dark?

Much too dark for me, making it difficult to see the windmill and steps

From what I can see in the last picture, it doesn't have windmills.

Looking at the photos you posted I agree with the other ladies that it is not an asscher. It looks very similar to my sapphire I had set so I would describe it as a corner cut princess/ emerald or similar, but not a traditional asscher cut. I think I have also heard this described as Octagons cuts as well....it's been awhile and my mind is fuzzy.

I'm sorry but I don't think I'm allowed to comment on my ring in these forums to try to sell it. So if you have questions about it you can contact Erica or Grace. Both are wonderful as I have purchased several items from them before. They will answer any questions you have about their items. As far as pictures you can click on my name and you will see my sapphire in many of my threads- especially those on the CS forum. I think my pictures, especially the one posted above is pretty true to life. I'm sorry I just don't want to upset the PS admins!!!!
