I wish I'd found this site months ago instead of a day ago - so much great info! I am very near the end of my 30 day return option on an Emerald cut 2.13 carat D VVS1 GIA graded diamond. Polish & Symmetry Excellent - Fluorescence none - Measurements 9.76 x 6.13 x 3.85 Table 65% Depth 62.7%

How confident can I be that this is a great stone by the specs? It looks beautiful to my very untrained eye but D could just be overkill. I am not finding F G H's (not sure how high I can go) that offer much better pricing with measurements in a similar range. Am I just not looking in the right places? I ordered in this stone in large part due to the nice 9.76 length if offered, looks better on my long gangly fingers - the more I can cover up the better lol! This stone seems to be very fairly priced for what it is and I don't want to let a good deal slip through my fingers but I really don't know what to do. I would welcome and value any opinions/suggestions any of you would take the time to share with me! I do want to stay below 30K for the stone and likely will set it with simple tapered baguettes sidestones for a clean classic elegant look.

Just a few questions to help you sort out your feelings. Do you love the diamond? How do you think it looks on your finger? As far as color goes, I'm personally very sensitive, so I love the rarity and icy coolness of a D color diamond, but that's just my opinion. Have you looked at other color and clarity ranges? My point is that your opinion is really the only one that counts. Just make sure you love the diamond.

Edited to add that advanced images such as aset will help others give you advice about the cut.

Unfortunately, we cant really tell much by the numbers on fancy-cut stones. Here is the link to what JA has for
2.1 D-F, VS1- FL up to $30k

btw...the stone you have...do the steps flash on/off all the way down into the center of the stone? Is the stone bright (not overly
dark)? Do you like how the stone performs?

Do you have a link to the stone you bought/ordered?

The length is quite long on your stone. You will probably wont find too many that long in the list above.

Well, to me, D would be overkill, but it depends on you. For an EC I think clarity is important, but I could buy an F or a G and be happy and I wouldn't see any tint, but you might and only you know if that will bother you. Inclusions in a step cut would bother me more than a tiny bit of tint. Have you looked around at stones in the F or G range in your budget that have the length/width that you like? Also, have you tried on longer, thinner, EC's just to make sure that the look is what you want on your longer, thinner fingers?

I'm not an expert, but FWIW I like the patterning on the diamond you ordered.

Not an EC cut expert but I love your stone. It is bright and the step patterns flashes on and off beautifully. Color and clarity is overkill for me but that is a GORGEOUS stone! Amazing buy for a noob! Congratulations!

It has a little bit of a flat crown partially due to the larger table. I cant tell if its flashing down into the center of the stone. Looks like
the black step in the middle may always stay black. I cant tell if anything inside (under) that step is flashing. That will be something
to check for when you get it in hand.

I do like the overall look of it and the length/proportions.

Let's see if we can get @Karl_K to comment on it. (He is our step-cut Guru)

I dont like rarecarot links but looked anyway.
@tyty333 is pretty much spot on so i would call it inconclusive but worth a look in person.
CH is on the low side of what can be acceptable, again depends on how it flashes in person.
Love the l/w ratio and that can account for some of the issues with the video but not be a problem in person.
Will look huge for its weight.
I like it as long as it flashes well in person.

So appreciative of the quick and helpful responses from everyone! I will pay particular attention to the flashing down the center of the stone or lack thereof and I'll feel far more confident in the decision I make thanks to the kind words and assistance I've received in this thread. Grateful!!
