I've wanted a periwinkle or lavender CS for a while. I LOOVE the color but I'm not as knowledgeable about sapphires as I am about diamonds and need your help to decide if this is a good stone.

-4.05ct
-9.20x7.10x6.70
-Unheated and untreated
-Origin: Sri Lanka
-Price: $3000 SGD with shipping or about $2260
-Says there is a cert from Ceylon Gem Labs ( don't know much about international CS labs)
-Says clarity is 95% clean (not sure what that means either)
-Available for return

I've also asked for pictures and videos in different lighting. Waiting to hear back.

Thank you

View it in artificial light as well. Sapphires often look great in sunlight. They tend to go greyer indoors.

I’m not familiar with that lab, but it’s tricky buying from Sri Lanka from what I hear due to the return process. If the stone pans out to be untreated, that’s a good price.

I would definitely get pictures in different lighting if you can. My sapphires look most blue in indirect daylight, which is what it looks like those pictures were taken in. I'd be interested to see what color it is indoors and if it is still as vibrant or if it is more gray.

The Ceylon Gem Labs certs I have received with stones have been accurate. I had the stones re-evaluated by GIA or AGL and they basically matched- just a mm deviation here & there.

Every seller has to start somewhere, and this one is pretty new at it. It's good there's a return policy. Get more pics and see the cert. Also, it says #nfs - did you put a hold on it?

ETA: Is it cracked - what is that line through it?

Thank you. They’ve promised to take an indoor video. In the meantime, they sent me this. https://www.instagram.com/p/COKQf85B7pI/?igshid=ehesdkpzsus1 which I am taking with a grain of salt since stones always looks so great in sunlight.

Could you elaborate more on the return process? I’m not familiar with the difficulty of returning stones to Sri Lanka.

Thank you! I’m hoping I get a video soon in some artificial lighting and crossing my fingers it’s not too gray. Don’t mind a little bit, but if there’s a huge difference, well I guess that answers my question.

Thank you, that’s good to know about the labs.

The IG that I linked is not the seller but what I use to link videos. It seems to be the easiest way since other platforms tend to lower the resolution.

As for the line, I didn’t even notice that. He did tell me there’s no crack but I’m going to enquire about it. Thank you for pointing it out.

That stone looks like it has a high amount of fluorescence so will most likely look like the periwinkle blue ;in sunlight and at its best. As others have said, you definitely need to see indoor photos.

Thank you. I got an update from the vendor. Says the stone is at a lab and they will get it back on Saturday and take some pictures/videos. I thought it was already graded but I didn’t question it.

I think it’s very intriguing.

it greying out a bit in certain lighting, nor having a veil would immediately put me off.
it all just depends on to what level.

having a veil

^^^^That's the word I was searching for! :wall:

BTW, @Spring Day B.G.Stones on Instagram posted a lovely light sapphire in his stories awhile back if you want to keep looking, as did GemObsessed. Also, Stag & Finch (lab created) have one.

I enquired about a cornflower BG has in stories but it doesn’t make me as happy as the periwinkle. I guess I’m waiting until Saturday.

So let’s talk about this veil. Are you saying there’s a veil? I’m a bit confused about your comment @Rfisher. I guess I’ll know a bit more on Saturday. He said it was clean but when I asked about the line he said it’s a reflection. He said he will double check and that’s when he found out it’s at a lab? Confused but oh well. Wait until Saturday.

Oh gosh. I didn’t type my thought well.
I think it’s a beautiful stone, as I see the pictures.
it greying out a bit, or having a veil would NOT immediately put me off this stone. It depends on how I see it in person. (My Ruby has one in a similar spot, it doesn’t traverse across the entire stone surface to surface - I accept it, as it’s faults make it within my means)

hopefully it’s just a facet reflection, or a much smaller inclusion that’s reflected and bounced around, it doesn’t stretch the width.
But again, if I saw it in hand and it didn’t look dangerous, I’d embrace it especially if the color wowed me.

If it actually looks like that, it is lovely and a bargain. Looks glowy and not super-crystalline.

I'm a little dubious after the "Oh, wait it's at the lab." What lab? It already went to the lab.

The color, if what they portray is true, is so amazing and I love it so much.

I got kind of an explanation on why it’s at a lab. Something about how they always check to make sure to get a verbal confirmation on whether the cert is correct before shipping to a buyer overseas.

Yeah that's not a thing -- sorry! Like they keep all the stones in a big Mason jar and somebody has to match them to the reports before they send them out?

They know at glance from the carat-weight and the facet pattern.

I do not trust this vendor. I have no idea who it is but that is a phony story.

Yea... it’s been a weird story from the start.
