Hi,
I am looking to purchase a 5 stone ring, and can't decide between having stones of .3ct or .4 ct. My current engagement ring is a halo (ish!) 1.13ct centre with the halo of .1 ct stones in a platinum band.

Id love to see some photos of your 5 stone rings with .3 to .5 diamonds.

Thanks

Hi @DiamondBaby -

I have nothing to share with you, by way of pictures. But I wanted to say - I think a band of .5ct stones would completely overwhelm your ring. Will the 5 stone go on your right hand? I have a 7 stone ring with tapered diamond sizes, and the largest is a .5, smallest .17, and my finger is a size 7.5. I wear this as a stand alone ring and it looks beautiful.

My rule of thumb is that , if you want to wear it with an e-ring, the ctw you can see should - at the very most - be no more than half what your e-ring is, and that the stones should be no bigger than the smallest side stone on your e-ring. It keeps your e-ring as the star and keeps it all in proportion.

These things are personal taste, obviously, but I do think if you add a band of .5 stones - even down to .3 stones - which are still large for a 5 stone!- you'll be out of balance and, as a result, will lose your e-ring as being the centerpiece.

Hi mrs-b, thank you for your above advice. Im finally coming back to this after a few months of just hectic life, kids, work!!

I have been trying on a few 4/5 stone rings ranging from .25ct each diamond to .5ct each diamond. The rings with .25ct each diamond were just not enough. There was a lovely one but the .32's I thought looked small, and the .5 were way to big!! It was funny trying them on I knew they wouldn't work! I tried on a four stone with .38ct each diamond, and that just worked for me, I think thats around the sweet spot for me! I've spoken to Joey in IDJ who has been fantastic, so now just time to think about setting options, as I need something to wrap around the band and sit fairly low, so looking at a few at the moment.

One ring that caught my eye ere was one from Bliss from a few years ago which prompted me to go looking again.

I had been getting seriously disillusioned with the whole process, but it gave me a new reason to go back and look again!!

Hopefully ill be making a hard fast decision soon!!

this is the 4 that I tried on that had the .38ct diamonds.

That really overwhelms your ring but would be great as a stand alone.

I’m a bit stuck to be honest AprilBaby, I intend wearing it every day with my other rings, can’t do it as a RH ring as I wear one there. The smaller size stones just don’t appeal to me. I can see what you are saying, but I just don’t know what to do.

Most people here get 5 stone rings of .30 points each and above as a standalone ring or to wear as the engagement ring with a plain wedding band with it. I do not like above 10 pointers in a wedding band to wear with an engagement ring, and especially since you have larger halo stones. Anything above 10 pointers in a band is going to look like too much, as in not really attractive.

Can you get the 5 stone as an alternate rhr? I know that you have one currently but switching things up on the right hand is a lot of fun. I have to agree with the others - that 5 stone is large for your ering and looks a bit unbalanced. But only you will be wearing it so if you love it, then go for it. If you want more finger coverage another consideration would be upgrading your ering. It looks very nice as is though. I love a cluster look.

I wanted to come back and say - have what you want. If you want a band with 10ct diamonds in it - have it! If you want 2 point stones - have it! It's only you who has to wear it and only you who gets to enjoy it. Life's too short. If you can afford it, and you like it, do it. :))

My RHR has a lot of sentimental value, and had a lot of work on it changing it from a white gold to a full platinum setting last year, it had got damaged and the white gold was just too brittle to secure everything properly, so I'm slow to wear something else at this stage!!

As regards the other rings, i could swap them out and wear the 5 as a stand alone with my wedding rings, plain bands. The ultimate goal is to upgrade the centre stone in my e-ring, and possibly go back to a pure solitaire, but thats a project for another day!!

This id my RHR, not worn with the others now, setting style is the same just more secure now!

Thanks for your views diamondseeker2006, I might have a look at a full eternity of much smaller diamonds, something similar to the 10 pointers that are in my e-ring halo. or wear the big 5 stone solo!!

Thanks mrs-b, I've been looking at some of your recent 12 projects, they are lovely. I've been having a good look at photos here, i may look at wearing it solo, or go smaller. There are a lot of photos of e rings with the 5 stone rings on the same finger, but i guess probably for comparison and not wearing all the time.

We don't have the same range of options in this country to go looking and trying on rings, or unset diamonds, so it can be difficult at times to get proportions right from looking at photos only, less options! Back to the drawing board i think.
