I have been a lurker here for many months and finally decided to make an account. I want to propose to my girlfriend and need help finding "the" stone. My gf likes pad colored stones and will not be wearing her e-ring every day. There is a stone that I have been eyeing for a while and I wanted to get some feedback from ps about it and if anyone has bought it and then returned the stone. If you know the vendor please do not disclose it as I do not want it to be bought out from under me by a lurker. Please let me know what you think of the stone's color. Thanks all.

Here is another hand shot from the vendor and a still from the video that the vendor provided.

Great color but I suggest to request a photo in daylight/natural light and see if you like the color. Many pad spinels turn brownish in daylight.

I think on the video (sorry I have been stalking spinels so long I instantly recognized the vendor pic) the stone appears more pink and may be less saturated than the photos. Spinels can color shift quite a bit and the less saturated stones can appear brownish or greyish. This might be one you need to view in person. For the price- I would want this stone to look excellent in all common lighting conditions. Hope that helps.

Very nice !

I like the color and the shape and the faceting; I think the video looks pretty darn good; since the vendor has a decent return policy, I recommend ordering it and having it sent to you so you can examine in various lighting environments. If it ends up not pleasing you, you are out the round-trip shipping cost, but as Spinels in the pad shades can be particularly tricky in terms of color shifting and availability, I think personal examination is worthwhile.

I do know who the vendor is and this is a stone I've liked for quite some time. I really love the color.
He has a good return policy. I think you should order it and see it in person.

ETA: I personally think it looks better than the pad sapphires on that site. It's also big so you're getting better bang for your buck (compared to the sapphires).

Agreed. It appears to be a lovely color, but its no bargain, so I'd want to make sure it always has that great mix of orange and pink and does not go brown.

Here are two spinels on the pad color range that shifts differently on different lighting conditions.

Left is a Mahenge spinel, right is a Burmese spinel.
Top photo under LED lamp, middle photo daylight (indirect sunlight), bottom photo under direct sunlight.

You have lots of different stones to demonstrate the colour shift of the stones.

Thanks. I've been collecting for more than 20 years. Many of my stones though are study stones, a collection of inclusions, or color reference when gem hunting, so not all are eye clean.

I think I prefer the look of the mahenge in these photos.
