An aunt of mine recently passed away, and left a sapphire and diamond ring to me. I know absolutely nothing about jewelry, but this ring really interests me. All of you here seem to be very knowledgeable, and I wondered if by looking at a few pictures, you could tell me whatever you notice about the ring (style, decade its from, size of the gems, whatever). Thanks in advance, and apologizes about the crappiness of the photos, I''ve never photographed jewelry before

Condolences on the loss of your aunt. That's a very pretty ring. I think you're not getting responses because it's hard to say anything for sure without seeing it in person.

I'm going to hazard a guess that it was made in the second half of the 20th century, perhaps the 60s or later. But that's just a guess.

Emme,

It appears to be a fairly inexpensive ring made with a medium dark to dark blue sapphire. It is difficult to get good pictures of jewelery without a good macro lense and some bright lighting, so it is hard to see much more than that from your photos.

Although inexpensive, it looks attractive and you should enjoy wearing it knowing that it was your Aunt's. If it should start your jewelry fever and put you on the path of continued collecting of jewelry then it will probably be the cause of much distress and woe to your poor husband or significant other!

Please tell us more about your Aunt, a favorite memory perhaps, and what about your relationship was special enough for her to leave you her ring. (Only if you desire to share, I do not mean to pry, but usually there is a beautiful story with every inherited piece of jewelry.)

Wink
