I need some help figuring out how to put a bustle in my dress. Here''s a pic of the whole back:

Here''s a closer shot of the actual dress. The satin underskirt has a sweep train, which I don''t plan to bustle. I just want a simple bustle in the organza overlayer, with a hook and eye attachment, and am not sure whether to do an over- or under-bustle. Does anyone have a similar style, or have any ideas on the best way to do this?

There is a seam that runs down the center of the train, so I can put the hook and eye along it somewhere. I''m just not sure if one hook is going to be enough. The organza is very light, and I should be able to hide the hook in the embroidery somewhere. I''m thinking of pulling the second to lowest flower on the train (the top one in this photo) up to a point just below the zipper. I tried that out today with the help of a friend.

I would have no clue. Maybe you should ask a professional seamstress.

Why do you want to put a bustle on this dress? It doesn''t seem like it needs one since the train is fairly short. Perhaps you can just put on one of those finger thingies so you can lift it up it you want to when you dance/walk? I cant see where the bustle would go since the dress seems not made for one. Is it?

Normally I wouldn''t worry about bustling it, but the wedding is on a 90'' sailboat and I want to get it up and out of the way after the ceremony so I can wander around without snagging it on everything. I thought about the wrist loop idea, but I think that would drive me nuts after a while. I never even intended to get a dress with a train, but that''s how it goes! I remembered seeing a couple dresses here that were similarly bustled with a single attachment, lower than the usual waist loops, and just thought someone might be kind enough to refresh my memory.

My friend sews, but I just wanted second opinions. It needs no other alterations, so I was trying to avoid schlepping it to a tailor shop just for one hook and eye.

Thanks!

i don''t think that a bustle would look right on that type of material...i tried on a dress with organza and a similar back and the woman told me that i''d have to loop it on my arm otherwise it would look wrinkled if they bustled it another way.

Your dress is gorgeous. I think I'd find something on my wrist annoying too. Take a couple pictures with it on and temporarily buslted and see if you like what you see. Take side shots as well pics from the back, and if it looks good to you, go for it. Your friend might have a couple ideas as well. Good luck.

Aha! I get it now. Well, you could see if a tailor could attach a discreet hook up in the middle of that middle floral area, and attach something to the middle of the bottom train floral area? I can see why you''d want to get it up off the ground on a boat.
