Happy New Year! This is my first CAD ring and this is the initial CAD. I know it's a simple one but I would really appreciate help. :)

Inspiration ring
  • a ring I currently own (pics below)
  • I love how clean and simple the setting this
  • this ring is holding a 9.5mm moissanite
  • the ring sits flush and I love that
New ring
  • It will house a 2.23 carat natural diamond VS1 L round cut
  • DK confirmed the setter will cut down the and carve delicate prongs.
Questions that I would love feedback on
  • Would this design be secure enough to do all in 18k gold? Should I consider getting a 6 prong mold to see also?
  • Do you see any variance from original- besides the more delicate prongs?
  • Is the ring around the diamond in the right place on the CAD? Does this ring aound the stone offer security or is it just for looks?
  • The shank width is 2mm on my original but it's 2.1mm below- is there a reason it's not noted as 2mm below?
  • My original ring shank thickness is thinner than the 1.8mm noted below but am I not sure how to tell what thickness the inspiration ring is.
  • Any thoughts, suggestions, or other ideas? I thought about doing a fun tiny tiny stone in the back of the ring shank but maybe better to leave as is?
Thanks in advance for any advice or tips!

I think the head of the ring is thicker in your ring. Looking at this image below:

It seems like the height of the ring is roughly equivalent to that of all the pieces of the head. think that helps with the elegance of the ring.

Comparing the side views is very interesting.

It looks like in the ring that the prongs go to the outside of shank and don't meet in the middle, which would allow the diamond to be seated a smidge deeper into the ring but making a flush fit harder.

@molecule Thank you so much! I'll pass along the notes.

Re-side view: I think I thought because I could wear plain bands and it sit next to my ring it was "flush fit" but looking at it again I think if I had an eternity band on it would not site flush with my current ring. Do you think the CAD setting of prongs meeting in the middle might be better than what I have now? I am thinking that might be better. My new ring won't sit up quite as high as the ring I currently own anyway bc the diamond is smaller.

If you have any other callouts, please let me know. :)

@gomeagan Depends on what you mean by better. I prefer the look of the ring you have now or a small donut to what the CAD is showing as I believe it looks more balanced, but it would sacrifice the flush fit. I would be willing to wear a spacer for that balanced look - but that might not be your preference.

@molecule thank you!! I do prefer the openness and let him know too. Spacer would be fine for me! :)

Looking now!

I think there needs to be a little doughnut under the base of the prongs. Even with your current ring, anything but a very low band will rub against the prongs.
