I just got this engagement ring and just noticed there are these black facet looking spots in the middle of the diamond...it is a 2 carat D color VS1 cushion...someone said it was due to the depth being 69.5% which is a touch higher then ideal range of 68%...any truth to that? i have attached 2 videos below

It might just be your head obstructing light return. Look up contrast.

You don’t want a diamond facets to light all at once. You want some light play.

Put it on your pinky or whatever finger it fits on and wear it around.

come back and tell us what you think after you read up on those two things under education tab at the top.

I put it on my finger and i still see the same as viewed in the videos i posted...it is not due to shadows....looks more like the light leakage pics in article u posted

Or maybe the contrast leakage it is tough to tell they look the same

Can we see a copy of the report?

Okay i appreciate it

With respect to depth...you cant blame dark areas on one thing like depth. More accurately you can blame it on the "cut".

Do you see the darkness in almost all lighting or do the facets go "white" sometimes?

Not sure what kind of help you are looking for. An aset image, which I suggested in your last thread, would have helped.

To be honest, I think it looks decent (as in good) for the type of cushion it is.

Ok I didn’t see the first post. I guess that would be my question (But I’ll go look up the other post): you obviously have the ring now. What will you do with it if this isn’t the performance you are happy with? Was it custom? Will you be able to return it or switch out the stone?

I’m traveling today so it might be a few days before I can follow Up.

You can buy an ASET here: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/aset-scope

As an educated guess, I will assume you are noticing not ideal light return. (It’s a bit leaky). It is what that stone is. So either you commit to it or you find out how to get another stone.

….sorry to throw this in, but I think the prongs could be a bit more refined. They are kinda big and boxy/clunky looking, but that is just my opinion and it’s worth nothing and it’s not something a lot of people would notice. It should be an easy fix if you want to tell the jeweler about it.

They dont go white...the facets that are dark stay dark in all lighting....i was just looking to find out what causes that if there was any specific reason and if it was normal for that appearance to be like that

Can that aset kit be done on the diamond with it in the setting or does it have to be removed from the setting?

The ASET can be used on a diamond that's already set.

Okay i ordered the aset scope i will check it out when it arrives

I suspect the dark zones are leakage.
If I am right they will be less apparent when the stone is dirty (i.e. most of the time)

The first 2 were taken with the same lighting and the last 2 were taken with different lighting...they are also all still photos

As I wrote above.
The dark zones were leakage when in the black box.

Do these images look decent overall?

I think it looks a little bit leaky where you notice the dark areas. The thing is: if it bothers you now, it’s only going to get worse over time (in our opinions).

The diamond still has nice sparkle and shine to it....i know its not the greatest but i was expecting the aset to come back worse then it did
