I am looking for a round center stone diamond around 2.5 carats that I plan on setting in a white gold three stone setting between two pear shape diamonds. I have found several center stones that look promising but would like help. GIA 5182980468 is my dream diamond but something less expensive is more realistic. Any help in my search would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello Stephanie,

While forum rules prohibit me from commenting on a specific diamond, I can tell you that as you look through the threads in this forum and/or get responses take the time to absorb all that is said regarding the cut of the diamonds at which you are looking.

The range for each classification of Cut are fairly wide and one 'excellent' cut may perform far differently (esp. in low light situations) than another 'excellent' cut. You will find, I think, that no other single characteristic of a diamond (esp. a Round) is more important to the light performance than the way the diamond is cut.

After a few threads here on PS, may find it easy to sacrifice a bit in the area of clarity and color to up the quality of cut and possibly the carat weight of the diamond.

I would encourage you to research and learn about the ASET and Ideal-Scope viewers and seek the help of the PS crowd to help you interpret those images when you get them - they won't steer you wrong!

My budget is 30k for the center stone. Thank you in advance for any direction you can give me.

You cannot go wrong with wf. The I will be so white. It will sparkle, shine, and dance for you!

$30k is a very healthy budget. Take a look at these (I don't have a CBI but like the way they perform):

https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD9597 - this one may be on hold.

https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD8963 -- above budget but...

https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD8738 - well under budget and a little bigger then the one you love

https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD8841

https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD9542 - under budget, similar size to one you loved.

There are tons of real diamond experts here...hopefully they will come out and help you.

As Snowdrop said, I would not pay for IF clarity either. Look at HPD, Whiteflash A Cut Above, also Brian Gavin Black for the best cuts diamonds. Cut is most important to me. My understanding is that the best cut diamonds perform better then their color and clarity would suggest (i.e. lower colors look to be brighter and a higher color then they are - but you need to be realistic about how color sensitive you are. The way they cut these diamonds also seems to "compensate" - the best word I can come up with - for perhaps lower clarity - I think HPD only goes to SI1 anyway).

Have fun hunting.

I like the 2.82 from WF that you posted. That would be an excellent choice if you could stretch your budget. I would also consider this one as an alternative:
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3952253.htm

It has a 36.0 crown angle, which is why it's not in the "A Cut Above" line, but it still has very nice IdealScope and ASET images. I imagine it would be a great performer (many people on this site like the firey look created by higher crown angles) and it would be well under budget. The medium blue fluorescence may also help it face-up whiter than the listed "I" color. Could save some money for an kick-ass honeymoon.

This was my stone that I recently traded in for an upgrade ACA. I can attest that it is a gorgeous stone. It faces up a bit smaller than it should due to the higher crown angle. It is an FIC cut. It has A TON of fire!!!!
