Hello! Any advice on vendors for an emerald for a pendant? I’m searching for a pendant for my mother who has been a complete life saver this past year. The emerald is because that is my baby’s birth stone. We live far away so I’m hoping this will remind her of her sweet grand baby during our time apart. My budget is limited ($500) for the stone so I’m thinking the 5mm range, but am totally clueless. Thanks!

What a lovely gesture! I recommend JTV a lot for these types of purchases, because you know exactly what you're getting, and there's no need to worry about fakes and lab reports for less expensive gems. They also have so many different shapes and sizes at varying price points. It's worth a look. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. Think this is clean enough for a pendant?

Always hard to tell from photos but it looks very included. Of course, JTV has a great return policy so it doesn't hurt to take a look.

Cecile Raley Designs has one for $520. The pictures aren't impressive but I usually go by her descriptions over her photos. She says that the color is truly excellent and the clarity is good for an emerald...so it may be worth asking about as well.

I'm not sure what your total budget it but keep in mind that with the price of gold, settings are not inexpensive in today's market. (CRD has a few finished emerald pieces and a sale that ends today).

Emeralds are notoriously difficult to accurately capture on camera, so it's so hard to tell without seeing the stone in-hand. JTV also backlights their gems for photos, which is a no-no in my book. I usually find their stones look better in person. As lilmosun said, they do have a great return policy, so it may be worth a shot. But definitely take a look around before making a decision. Good luck!

JTV is a hodgepodge of quality, but sometimes you can get lucky. The best thing about them is their rock solid return policy. Also, always check for coupons, and online discounts. They have a 14 day guarantee of price adjustment if you order before a sale occurs, and sales happen all the time. Just make sure you contact them for any price adjustment. Also take advantage of the no interest payments if you can.
