Hello All,

My Dad is buying my Mum a beautiful eternity band for her 60th birthday (Aww...) and as she knows nothing about diamonds I have been trying to pass on my PS education to prevent him getting ripped off! She wants a baguette cut bezal set, half eternity band in white gold like in the picture (hopefully my attachment worked?) but with alternating Ceylon sapphires to match her engagement ring. Local jeweller has found sapphires that match colour-wise so she is happy.

Ok two questions - the diamonds we have been quoted are G colour, VS2 clarity is that too poor for this sort of thing? They will only be small stones but my mum was worried they would look too yellow...

Second question - is it possible to have some sort of open scrolling on the SIDE of the band to let more light in? I cannot find an example of what I mean so if someones knows or can post pics I would be sooooooooo grateful!!!

Thanks so much.

aww, that is really sweet. I''ll try to help to the best of my ability. A G diamond will look quite white, many PSers (including myself) have a G diamonds and have no complaints. If you are still concerned you can always go into a store and look at some G''s. VS should be fine, the inclusion are hard to see with the naked eye, and you would need a 10X loupe to see them.

As for your second question, a well cut diamond shouldn''t need light coming in from the sides. Light only enters from the top. That''s why people with bezel set stones still have beautiful brilliant diamonds. It''s all about the cut. I hope this helps, and i hope one of the veterans will add more or correct anything i have misinformed you about. The ring sounds like it will be beautiful, i hope you come back with pictures when its done.

popcorn said it well - g should be just lovely in this setting (which sounds gorgeous), and as long as the stones are cut well, you don''t need light coming in from the sides solely for performance (if it is for the general aesthetics then that is completely different) because as popcorn said, the light comes in the top and with a good cut is reflected right back. Poorly cut stones (such as a steep deep round brilliant) may benefit from a high setting with open sides giving it lots of light exposure from the sides because they are so leaky so they need all the extra light sources they can get to make up for all the light they are losing.

Ditto the ladies, G colour should be fine and what a lovely setting style!
