Hey ladies and gents! We are having a rustic themed fall wedding, and one of our repetitive symbols is an acorn. Today I bought a hand sized copper acorn cookie cutter. I decided after going back and forth between honey and candles and coasters (and all sorts of things that aren''t edible) that food is the way to go. I plan on making acorn shaped cookies, either iced like an acorn or not iced. My question is: what kind of cookie? Gingersnap, peanut-butter, oatmeal raisin, sugar, chocolate chip, snickerdoodle...What do you think? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Ginger cookies! I think some of the others you mentioned (chocolate chip, oatmeal) are more drop cookies and won''t take well to rolling and cutting. You could do sugar cookies, but I think the gingerbread is more fall-like. Yummy

Basil, that''s what I was thinking, too!! I LOVE gingerbread men, gingerbread acorns should be good! Iced or not?

If you do gingerbread, they''ll already be brown, so you won''t need to ice them to make them look like acorns, like you would sugar cookies, but you could easily do a little cap on the acorns with an icing tip. Maybe just a little zig-zag that wouldn''t be too time intensive.

Iced sugar cookies are one of my "specialties" but they take FOREVER so anything you can do to speed up the process is important! Be sure to let the icing throughly set before stacking or bagging. Depending on what kind of icing you use, it could take a while.

HAVE FUN!!!!

I think the gingersnap. It goes well with the fall theme. You could ice them or leave them plain.
I would probably stay away from the peanut butter, unless you are certain that none of your guests are allergic to peanuts. That could lead to some unplanned excitement at the reception!
Happy baking!

I love the idea of gingerbread acorn-shaped cookies. A little white piped-on icing (that hardens) to decorate and those would really make a unique tasty favor. Start testing some samples and show us pictures. Gingerbready holds up well so you could make those in advance.

Gingerbread, and a bit of white icing, but not too much.

Edited because I went exclamation point crazy!!!!

Thanks guys! I was leaning towards gingerbread, too, it just is perfect! Yeah, even though I LOVE peanut butter cookies, but there ia a girl who is deathly allergic to nuts. Good point, Tiffany.

I know this is going to take me forever to do (one hundred and fifty cookies!), but I''m excited. How should I arrange them? On the plates? On a specific table? Yay!

Another vote for gingerbread and I agree with Sumbride that it may be a little too time consuming to ice all of them... i think they would be great all by themselves, or maybe a thin outline.

We had cookie favors shaped like "L"s for our last name and they were a huge hit. I wrapped each one in a clear cellophane bag from Michaels (you can get them with designs too) and put tags on them that doubled as seating cards (guest name and table #). If it was a couple, there was one tag, attachd to two bags with a cookie each.

njc, I htink that''s the best idea!! I love the idea of favors and tags!!

I would also vote for gingerbread (or, to throw a whole other idea in there--a maple sugar cookie)

In terms of icing, look for a recipe for royal decorator''s icing, made with merinque powder, a little water and lots of icing sugar. This will dry hard, and will keep for weeks. Since I make these types of cookies all the time, I would suggest you go to a craft store and buy a couple cheap plastic craft bottles with tapered nozzle tips to pour the icing into. This will make decorating a breeze. It is easier to control than an icing bag, cleaner, and you can then seal the tip of the bottle and keep your icing for days so you can work on them over a week or so.

Not sure how experienced you are with this type of thing, so if you need any help, I would be happy to give u some more hints
