Hi all

Can anyone please advise if this is a good diamond to buy for this price?

Anyone know if I can get similar or better diamond around the same price?

Thank you.

I would not buy that stone, but the price isn't showing so I don't know what your budget is. Are you looking for an oval about 1.5 cts? F, G, H, color?

Would not be my pick...there are better cuts out there. Let us know your budget and any spec requirements
and hopefully when can point you to a few with better faceting/light return.

Finding a good stone close to that size for that budget will be hard I think. OP needs to give a little somewhere.

The diamond is $8090 after the discount.
Looking for something around 1.5 ideally G colour!

Thank you for your reply. How can you tell it is not a good cut? Looking for around 1.5 carat oval in G colour around $8k

Do I need to worry the inclusions will show to the naked eye or should it be eye clean?? Thanks!

Thank you but unfortunately not available :(

It's the same diamond that you are asking about. I posted the info showing price so that the others might help find some alternatives, but I think it's going to be tough at this carat weight and price point. :)

It looks to have prominent feathers and wisps under the table, so those may interfere with transparency causing this diamond to appear a bit cloudy/hazy in certain lighting conditions. I will defer to the expertise of the others that have more experience viewing/encountering with such inclusions.

I doubt it would be eye clean to me. That large inclusion that you can see on the table would be noticeable to me. And the faceting of the stone is fairly mushy on the outer parts. If you can't up your budget you might think about a smaller, better cut stone with less inclusions. Bigger isn't always better. However, JA has a decent return policy so you could order the stone and take a look at it and see what you think. That's really all that matters.

Can you post the cert? I agree with the above that I'd reduce on size and up the clarity and cut. Better to have a slightly smaller sparkler than a bigger, duller stone.

How can i check the cut rating for an oval? How do I know that this diamond will be dull? What should I be checking to make sure it’s sparkler? Thanks.

she, have you checked out LGD offerings?
PS has a dedicated subforum to provide you everything you ever wanted to know (and more!), and you could get an exceptionally cut oval 1.7+ D-E VS2+ for $5-6K, easily. I'm suggesting this because I want you to be able to maximize your diamond purchase without having to compromise on color and/or clarity at the size/spread that you're looking at in this 1.6 G SI2. Some more good news is that JA along with many other sellers now include their LGDs in their upgrade programs.

If you want to stick with natural, that's understandable because I appreciate the allure of them. Thousands and thousands of diamonds out there to choose from at any given minute.

Thank you!

I have mostly been looking for natural but I definitely see the appeal of LGD!

So I am now thinking of LGD… what do you think about this diamond? What are the cons and pros of getting a LGD over a natural diamond? Thanks.

Head on over to the LGD section and make a thread there so that we can abide by the forum rules...I already have a list of recommendations to reply with! :)

The yellow area is nice, well-defined facets that will return light well.
The black zig-zag areas are the places ovals tend to be "mushy" (don't return light well). You need to look for a stone
that when it turns, more "nice" facets pop up radiating out from the center and doesn't face up so mushy straight on.

For Example...look at this stone (it does not meet your specs)

I'll look around to see if I can find anything. LGD may be your best bet!

Edit...I checked all our usual places (JA, BN, Adiamor, and B2c...nothing nice in your size/price range). I'm sure you can
find something nice (as in well-cut) in LGD).

I think for your budget, if you want a natural stone, you will probably have to go smaller than you want to get a nicely cut stone in your color range. If you can up your budget, here's a l.5 ct. that looks pretty nice to me. It's an H though.

If you haven’t discussed LGD with the recipient, you must do so before you start looking/get one. Also, must the recipient have an Oval? Ovals are a little trickier to assess the cut quality than rounds. But if you keep posting here, you will get lots of advice and possibly learn what is good and bad with regard to Ovals. They do not have a “standardized” set of numbers that would help to narrow down keepers, as we do with rounds. So, first, decide the shape. Then, if you haven’t discussed LGD, stick with natural.

Thank you! That makes more sense!
Will keep looking for a smaller stone.

Thanks! I have started looking at LGDs as an oval is definitely what they want! A natural stone would be ideal but it is a bit out of budget.
