Considering these two sapphires but know nothing about sapphire except that I love the color of blue-ish green... but is it good? Is this a good starter sapphire? Any help would be sooo appreciated. Thank you

Can you show a pic of your ideal color? I don't think either of these will look great IRL.

If you like blue-green, I would search for teal sapphires or Montana sapphires. Bicolor sapphires often end up looking muddy and dark in real life. It might take a bit of digging, but I definitely think you can find something better for under $500. For example:

Thank you for chiming in, I know nothing about colored stones but knew enough to know that the stones looks the best in vendor photos. Hahaha... sadly these are my ideal color but I want them to look like this irl. I was just browsing etsy for side stones and came upon these. I like that I can see different colors depending on the angle. I don't usually consider buying a colored stone unless its from a PSer because color stones intimidate me but I am drawn to the peacock colored sapphires.

Thank you!! I did not like the photo of the stone but that video:kiss2:. Thank you for the info, I will do a search on the teal and Montana sapphires. I am also looking through the pinned recommended vendor post. There's a lot to go through.

@Diamondbug I'm new to this too. I love the look of Montana sapphires but they come in all sorts of colors and color can shift a lot depending on lighting/angle. Plus they're pretty expensive. I am waiting for my MS ring to come in (the stone is really small and darker than what you're going for it seems like), but it is teal, cut beautifully and I like the color shifts. I'll post pics up in the forum when I actually receive it.

Not much to add, just that I'm looking forward to see what you decide on! What's your budget, and what kind of cut do you want?

I am kinda scared to get into colored stones.... so many factors to consider when buying a colored stone and prices are everywhere. Diamonds are so much easier. Bummed to hear that the Montana Sapphires are expensive... why can't I fall for something that is easier on the pocket!!

Pretty excited to see your new ring. I love it when the stone changes color. To me , it seems to make it more lively. I'm sure I'm not using the right lingo... but I hope I'm making sense. I am going to have to do some reading and looking to develop an eye for the stones. I am not sure what is the appropriate budget. I bought a ring with a chunky halo that I want to reset with a colored stone. I think I want a rectangular-ish cushion, oval or marquise shape. But I am not in a hurry, so I'll just sit and enjoy all the blings on PS.

Hi @Diamondbug, I received the ring an hour ago and immediately took it for a "test walk." Here are unedited pics I took using 1.7x zoom with iPhone 11, and also 1.7x zoom with macro lens attachment, and some just regular no zoom.

I'll also update the Vender vs PS photos thread with the vendor photo vs my photo. These are just quick one-handed pics I took (and I don't have a steady hand). Some thoughts - I thought the stone would be lighter based on vendor pic, but when I received it I still loved it, even though it's darker and I can barely detect any green. Once set it's not any lighter, lol. And it's 6mm at the longest points so the facets are hard to see unless zooming in.

I chose brushed yellow gold because when I see Montana sapphires, I think "rustic/earthy" and indeed the yellow and brushed look complements the blue earthiness of the stone quite well (also I'm a fan of the Golden State Warriors). Shout-out to Daniel M for the beautifully dainty setting!IMG_1324.jpegIMG_1329.jpegIMG_1321.jpegIMG_1328.jpeg

WOW!! First I have to say, you have gorgeous long slender fingers!!

I love the stone!! I personally think it is a beautiful blue hue. Rich blue without going dark/black. And I think the yellow brings out the richness of the color. Love the fluid lines of the setting. I might have to use Daniel M on a project. Off to check on your post.

I love teal stones. And it looks soooo good with the yellow gold!

@Diamondbug I was recently looking for an 8mm round for a ring setting and was considering getting a teal Montana sapphire from the Earth's Treasury website. I've never purchased from them, but PSers seem to have good experiences with them. I ended up going a difference direction for the center stone. But finding my perfect teal (aka a stormy Caribbean blue) sapphire is still on my wish list. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with!

Thanks for the tip. I will go check them out. I am mostly just sitting back and learning why PSer decided on which stones to collect. I can't wait to see your stormy Caribbean blue. I love that name/description!! Going to be beautiful!!
