HELP with Gown ASAP!

Help! I went to David''s Bridal this morning to shop for dresses for the first time--my mom went with me. I was hesitant to go because of all the bad stories I''ve heard, but that was our only option in driving range for today.

Turns out I found a lovely dress, T8021. It retails for 549, but theres some discount in the next week or so that could take off between 50 and 200.

I''m wearing my mother''s veil, which matches the scalloping of the lace perfectly. Both ivory (color was hard to match, as you can imagine.)

However, the saleslady found out when she typed it into the computer that its being discontinued. I thought, oh no! But was that just a sales pitch? She was nice otherwise. I got on the website, and I can''t find the style anymore. So maybe she''s right?

qtiekiki, I know this was your dress and you look gorgeous in it! I hope you don''t mind I love it just as much as you did!

I am getting pictures back tomorrow and will post asap...but here is what you girls could tell me in the meantime:
1) Was the discontinuance a gimmick? If not, should I go ahead and get it asap without going to anymore stores?
2) How likely will it be that i''ll find a dress the same color as the veil and match the veil?
3) I wore a size 12 but it pulled a bit in the back...but it''s almost "girls week" if you know what I mean, and am a couple pounds heavier than normal. Without this tidbit, the saleslady suggested I go up a size, but I thought it fit okay (so did mom)...would sticking to this size be okay?
4) Etc. PLease answer all the questions I''m forgetting to ask.

It may be being discontinued, but you can still find the dress after its discontinued. That was a sales pitch. They still have them in the stores, and at davids you buy off the rack.

You should never buy the first dress, go try on several dresses while you wait for davids sale! There is a good chance you will find something else (or you will continue to love this dress)

I would buy the 12. They always want you to go up a size, they make a killing in alterations. If it fits, get it, you will likely loose 5 pounds the month before the wedding anyway!

My two cents. I''m sure its beautiful, just dont let anyone make you feel rushed. You will find the perfect dress, if you havent found it already!

I am in the same EXACT boat!!!! I''m not even engaged yet, but am already starting to plan my wedding. T8021 is the gown I want too, and can''t find it anywhere.. The David''s Bridal consultant told me it was discontinued also and I can''t even find a gown close to my size to have it resized. I am beyond frustrated and wish that I would have bought it when it was still in the stores... either way, if anyone has any idea how to get this dress, any information would be great!

msflutter--thanks! I tried on about 10 yesterday...this was the 9th. It just seemed perfect. And truthfully, I''ve got 11 months until the wedding so if for some freak reason I find another one... I don''t think I''m rushing just because it is being discontinued. But we brides always lose a sense of perspective along the way. I''m going to stick to the 12.

kalispera--great taste you have! I searched on ebay by typing in the style number and found a copy that some other people make. It looks pretty...try that. good luck!

So: Iguess I''m going to wait a couple days and call back to see if it''s there, go in a try it again with a couple more friends and mother...and see???

You look fabulous in the dress. All I can say is that you have great taste. hehehe. You are not a size 12, you look so tiny.

The style had been out for a few years, so it might be possible that it was being discontinued. I don't know for sure.

But as much as I love the dress, I do think that you should try on more styles and dresses before deciding just in case. If after trying on more dresses, that dress is still in your head, then you know that's the dress.

As far as the fit, you should definitely go with the 12 because I think you are going to end up paying a lot for the alteration for the next size up. Don't let them talk you up a size so you have to spend more. P.S. the difference between two sizes are noticeable. I tried on a size 6 first, which was really loose in the bust, so I tried on a size 4, which was little on the fitted side. So I got the size 4.

It's going to be pretty hard to fill perfectly matched color, but if it's a subtle difference, then it's ok.

You look great in that dress! Listen, I bought my dress in the first trip, at David''s, 14 months in advance so obviously I don''t think it is a big deal to buy early or at the first place. I still love my dress but that is my personality. I am very decisive. If you love it and the 12 fits well I would buy it!!!

I bought it!

I took my mom and the mother of the groom a second time, and tried it again. It needs no alterations, no crinoline, basically it''s perfect. AND, it rang up for 349 instead of 549!

I''m so excited...now to find somewhere to put it for the next 11 months where the fiance won''t see it...probably off to the upstairs bedrooms at my parent''s house.

As of Thursday night, there was a size 10 (for people who wear a six in real life) in the Greenville NC store.
See if you can call around different places and get it shipped or something?

I haven''t had any luck yet.. I need a size 4 and I have only been able to try on a size 10 which looked crazy on me and I am not sure if I should go ahead and buy the dress in a size 4 somewhere online. I''m worried that since I have not been able to try it on in the right size that I might have the wrong impression of what it will look like on me.. I am still up in the air about everything. I think I will try on some other dresses and see if anything else sparks my attention, if not, I can always try to find this dress again. BTW, congrats on buying it-and for such a good price!! That''s great!!

Hopefully you will find one in size 4. It was hard finding a size 4 to try on when I got the dress back in the beginning of 2005. Good Luck. DH won''t let me sell the dress, otherwise I would sell mines to you. Although it might be too short for you.

I love it, it is a perfect match with the veil and fits you perfectly. Don''t you love when something rings up cheaper? Then you KNOW you didn''t let the sale price enter into your decision! Now you have extra $ for wedding day jewelry!
