I am inspired by the green thread post and especially impressed by the 3 stones from gene.

There is only one green tourmaline available, http://www.precisiongem.com/Gemstones/Gemstones/rapidcart/greentourmaline.html

It is 5.395 ct, from Nigeria, measures 10.172 mm, eye clean. The color on this is a green, with a touch of blue and gray.
Color: 8/10 Clarity: 8/10 Brilliance: 5/5
$ 647.00

Is color close to any of the three stones listed above? Is the price at $647 reasonable? Thank you.

It is best to ask Gene but on my monitor, the first two tourmalines have stronger saturation, hence they appear brighter and pop more. In general, Gene's pricing is fair and charges according to the quality.

I agree with Chrono. Gene's pictures also seem to accurate, based on feedback I have seen on PS, and the stone you are considering does not have the color of the first stones.

Can you tell us the name of the vendor for the emeralds? I am curious to know if someone has had previous experience with on PS.

Hi :wavey: I am the owner of the 2nd tourmaline you posted. The one that is currently available is from a different rough and looks darker then the color you are interested in.

When I bought my stone, there was more rough available so you may want to contact Gene and ask him about it. Rough number 1 is the piece that was cut for me. I believe number two is the larger piece that was recently sold (not sure though).

1 - Rectangular cushion 5.3 ct. SOLD
2 - Square cushion 11.4 ct SOLD? (Not sure though)
3 - Rectangular cushion 13.5 ct.
4 - Square cushion 9.2 ct.
5 - Square cushion 3.3 ct.
6 - Rectangular cushion 3.3 ct.
The first two stones you posted (sparkliesluver's and mine) were cut from this particular rough.

Thank you for all your replies. It seems like I might need to wait a little bit to see if there will be more options.

Pregcurious, the emeralds ring I asked in another post is from a vendor in China. A friend of mine recommended, now I stopped thinking about it since I do not want to take any risk.

Acinom, do you still remember the price range for the stones? I am new to Pricescope and if it is not appropriate to ask the price just ignore it.

It's always best to ask for an actual quote as a vendor could have raised the prices. In the 'lower' carat up to 8 cts??? the price is 450$ per carat. The stone that is currently availabe is from a different quality rough and is therefore sold at a much lower price.

Happy hunting! I hope you will find your dreamstone soon :wavey:

Thanks, Shulaiboama. Would it still be possible for you to submit the name of the vendor? It would add to the resources we have in PS. It would not be a recommendation, but it would be helpful to have the vendor's name attached to the thread because it has comments that may help other people like you to evaluate the stone and settings.

OP: there is typically one more number that Gene assigns to his cut stones and that is one for a score of overall quality. It seems to be missing from the ratings/scores you provided above. I find that score of his to be particularly helpful when comparing one of his stones to another. I would bet anything that the overall quality score of the stone you were considering is significantly lower than those stones from acinom's and the others' rough. I think this because the one you post is not bright and highly saturated like the others, looking a bit darker and more subdued. I would not consider purchasing that stone but thats me. That said, I would expect the rough - and cut stones - to be more expensive from the other parcel as the material appears to have better color, saturation and overall quality.

Thanks for the clarification, acinom! :wavey:

Hi there :wavey:

I'm the owner of the third tourm you posted and just wanted to say that I think you should still contact Gene for more information if you like the stone. i actually think it's really beautiful - green with a hint of blue and grey. Yes it has some grey but that's notnecessarily a bad thing. It just comes down to personal preference. I've actually considered purchasing this stone in addition to the own I own - not because I expect it to look identifical to mine but because it's beautiful in its own right.

In terms of tone -my tourm is definately a shade darker than Acinom and Sparklieluver but it's a very bright and saturated green with a blue modifier. In this regard it is much nicer IRL than Gene's picture would suggest. I think the tourm listed may also be much nicer in person! No harm in asking! =)

Who needs emeralds when one can have a green/blue tourmaline as lively as the ones seen in this thread?!

DK

Thank you all for your response. I contacted Gene and he sent me a video of this tourmaline. It is not saturated as the other 3 stones, it is more like teal color to me, I like it very much. Since my favorite color is green, I might be more picky so I will wait for another week to think about it.

when I goofing on Gene's site, I saw this pink sapphire it is a little bit small since I like big and b--ling--. But but the color is so lovely, I would like to give it a try. I know Gene will have a killing pretty pink sapphire ready very soon, but 4ct is too big for me since I am not a pink person and would like to save the money for a real blue sapphire for my 10 year anniversary next year.

Gene is a great vendor with a great return policy. That being said, I am not too fond of the stone you passed on. It's a bit too dark and grey for my liking, and I wanted to point that out since you are new to CS. When I first started collecting, I bought stones that were way too dark and grey (low saturation). It's okay to like grey if you've seen more saturated gems and you still rather have grey, but since you were picking out more saturated gems as examples of stones you desired, I think you might not be too happy with that gem from Gene, and I'm glad you passed on it.

However, if you want to view that stone from Gene in person, that's fine too. He's a no risk vendor, and has a great reputation. :-)

Ah, it's great that you have a video of the green stone. Take some time to think about it. Personally I can recommend saving up for the vibrant rough. It has an amazing color.

I like the pink ruby-like sapphire you came across!
