I've been looking for sapphire for a while and really like the color of @Acinom's sapphire. I saw this from Gemfix and am wondering whether this stone will be too dark indoors:

Gemfix's faq page says that they simulate daylight when taking pictures and I assume that means being outside. Based on your experience with this vendor, do you all think this will darken a lot indoor? I'm open to other sapphires that you all might have come across.

I’d say yes. It’s just the trade off with this colour. If you don’t want it to darken, you’ll need a stone with a lighter tone.

This one’s pretty as hell, though!

Ooo I love this one. Not sure if it'll darken indoors, but I think they have a good return policy if you aren't happy

I like this vendors descriptions - I think they are accurate and thorough. From what I’ve experienced - they are pretty darn accurate with photos and videos. Very nice easy to deal with, too.

I’m no expert - but this what I believe:
That being said - and with the agreement of names like ‘Royal’ are somewhat subjective- I’m not sure I’ve seen Acinoms sapphire described here as Royal. I would think hers is lighter than name usually is attached to.

And more importantly to mimic the gorgeous specialness hers is-
Is getting that same intense/vivid level of saturation and imperceptible level of even silk to velvet it so it keeps that intense color in lower lightings without being overly silky/sleepy in loss of scintillation, and loss of saturation or extincting out in non strong /non direct focused light. That’s the key of what makes hers so special and what’s so hard to find, and if you do - the price tag is most likely reflecting it. And it goes without saying - the stone you linked is not a ‘cheap’ stone by any means! I’d just think if it were having those properties……more would be said about it in the vendors description.

If you look at the owner photo vs vendor photo thread in this forum, and search up that vendor - you’ll see plenty of great examples of his photos /videos being close if not spot on and you’ll also see the ones how they behave in different lighting when that saturation and silk just arent there to have the same properties to behave like acinoms does.

That round you linked is a very pretty stone. I’m not sure it will behave the same as your acinom’s sapphire goal is to, though.

Oh, that's a lovely sapphire!
This is a beautiful example. I'll guesstimate a shade and a half darker than hers unset. It will darken a some in low light as all stones do, but it will likely always be an amazing blue that will wink and blink at you.
This one most definitely holds it's own, though. I love the small table and crown on this stone. I really like the roulette cut on a sapphire.

* To be fair: @Acinom's is a very rare almost neon velvet that is incredibly hard to find. It's the depth of that stone, you see.
The closest GF has to my eye is:
#1372 and it's a much smaller stone with slightly more silk.
# 1370 may do ya, without the silk, so will lack the same glow.image_2023-05-06_231947661.png

First of all, thank you all for helping me. I can’t express how thankful I am.

I like 11-1372. It is darker than 1370. Do you think it might appear inky blue indoor?

Looking at the vendor owner pictures, it looks like it might be fine. Hoping for another more experienced opinion.

11-1372 go inky? No, IMO

Inky as examples called that by the vendor themselves

I would LOVE to see 1372 in person

Ah, i see. Trade languages are quite vague. I’ve seen all kinds of royal blue and all kinds of cornflower blue. Yeah, I can’t see 1372 becoming that dark either.

I’m so conflicted. I’m having a hard time justifying that much price difference for 1mm in diameter for 2 stones that I like. The description of both says it’s glowy and the colors actually do look quite similar.

I absolutely hate that sapphire…it angers me that it not mine.

Oh, I know, the sapphire that launched a thousand ships, that one!

@MySapphireQuest- Both sapphires are bright and beautiful. It's 1372 that is the closest in color and silk (making it close to grail color territory for me, personally). It's worth seeing.

Thank you all! I ordered 1372 and I’m hoping it will be nice.

I do have a question about lab report though. Since this sapphire does not come with a lab report, do you think it’s something I should still get independently. For me, the reason for getting the lab report is to verify it’s a natural sapphire. I do not really mind where the stone is from so long as my eyes are happy. Since this is from a reputable store, do you think it’s still necessary?

I would if I wanted to satisfy my curiosity.

There’s nothing wrong with due diligence.

I do somewhat regret not getting mine done before it was set.

Please do come back to tell us all about your thoughts when you receive it. Tons of pictures, too!

I think the 1372 is a beautiful sapphire! I'm sure the report would come back as expected, but if you need it to be at peace, then by all means get it.

I just saw this thread and was inspired to pull out my @Acinom velvety sapphire ring to wear it. I’m pretty happy with the stone I found and hopefully yours will be equally satisfying. I can’t wait to see pics.

Any news? :)

Gemfix told me that the 1372 is very dark indoor and is definitely not what I'm looking for. So I cancelled the order. She suggested 11-1352 instead. I just ordered and am awaiting the order.

Really interesting to hear that it's "very dark" indoor. Shows how difficult it is to gauge how dark it will seem to you if you're able to see only one photo and one video taken in the same lighting set-up. I do appreciate her candor though... Hope you love the one you ordered!

To be clear, she did not say “very dark”. She said it will darken indoor and it’s not what I am looking for. She said it’s silky but will require a decent amount of light. I wanted something that will not be too dark indoors, so she recommended a few others for me.

Beautiful blue, but what do you think?

It’s the perfect color for me because I love the intensity of the blue without it being too dark. It’s also super sparkly. I have never seen a sapphire this sparkly before. I think it’s the precision cut that made the difference. I wish it’s a bit bigger .

Now I need to set it. I was originally planning to have it set by Daniel M, but I’ve read this long thread about how he closed his shop abruptly a few years ago and got worried. Then I was thinking of getting the setting made by Diamondmounts but saw a thread here in PS that says that they used moissanite instead of diamonds on their melee and sell it as diamonds. That’s a while ago. Has anyone tested it recently? I know that several PSer have used jewelleryhoo/leejewelry. Wondering if anyone has tested their diamonds and setting to make sure it’s legit? The setting I plan for this is rather simple - halo ring with double band. So I’m thinking of saving a bit by not using DK. Any other suggestion?

Thanks again.

Ah, the lament of every CS owner wishing all their stones were just a little bigger!
A sparkly sapphire is a special thing and so beautiful.
I don't have any experience with the Chinese vendors but I'll tag @dk168 as she knows more of the process and has some beautiful rings to show for it!
DK is a favorite and the work they do is fantastic.
I don't know your 'style' but ivy&rose also make settings, they lean antique but can modify. They have Etsy/Ebay/Insta fronts.

I have been using diamondmounts since 2015 and have never had any of my pieces tested to see the diamonds are diamonds and not anything else.

DK :))

Thanks for letting me know @dk168

That’s a beautiful cobalt, to my eye.

Yes, it’s very pretty. It’s hard to capture the true color using my phone, it’s a nice blue to me. That along with the sparkles makes it very mesmerizing.
