Help with setting ovals!

OK, so I would really like to get these lovely supernovas from Barry set already!

Both are around 1.2 ct, the lavender sapphire is 6.5 x 5.5 and the tourm is 7x6. I have no idea what I want, lol. I already have two supernovas from him set, one is a tsavorite in a delicate lotus solitaire, and one is an imperial garnet in a yellow gold halo, so I'd like not to come too close to those two styles if I can... A three stone with half moon would make either look gorgeous, but the budget isn't quite so plush since I have a lot of settings I want to get done, lol.

Suggestions? They actually look pretty together, should I try to figure out a setting that incorporates both?

How about a bypass ring?

The sapphire is slightly smaller in appearance, think it'll matter in a bypass?

Oh, and bezels or prongs?

I really like the pastel qualities of each and think they are well matched for medium tone and saturation. They would look very good together. That, unfortunately is as much help as I can be. Okay, if you insist, my vote is a bypass ring with prongs in 14k yellow gold, or 18k rose gold (first vote for yellow though) :cheeky:

My first thought was a bypass ring, but I'm not really a fan of bypass rings with ovals. Just my opinion though. It doesn't look "right" to me, and I can't exactly put my finger on why. (ETA: I would also be bothered by the slightly different sizes.)

What about getting another smaller supernova with similar tone and lining them up north/south with the biggest on the bottom and smallest on top as a 3-stone pendant?

Oh...stacking rings maybe?

Will the size difference bother you when they are side by side?
Do you have the finger real estate for two 1 ct-ish stones together?
I can see this is either rose or yellow gold. Do you have any such metal to "test" with?

What beautiful stones. A bypass could be cool. Or some type asymmetrical design with a few small diamonds or gold dots in there somewhere for interest.

Yes! Stacking rings are always fun and versatile.

Haha. Don't know why but I just can't do stackers. They make me nutty

Pretty stones -- I really really like the sapphire; it's even better in your photo than BB's. Here are a few examples I found; maybe some version of one of them? If you google "2-stone mother's ring" a zillion ideas come up. I think they're close enough in size that if they were separated by diamonds or other stone, it wouldn't be apparent (Seems like the right stone is slightly bigger in Pic #3) -- but depends on how much finger you have too. I go for yg or rg too for them.

I can't bear stackers or bypass rings so I'm going to be of no help with those! I do think the stones look great together but I think they would look beautiful on their own in very different designs also and that would be my preference.

MTG - you mentioned half moons? How about using white sapphires to keep the cost down?

So I took the ovals and some other stones to my jeweler, the more I thought about it, the more I'm willing to give stackers a go. That way I can still wear them as singles with just some bands if I don't want to be too blingy. I'm still trying to think of a way to make them more interesting or have them play off each other, I'm hoping my jeweler can come up with something suitable, she did a great job with coming up with a concept to fit my sapphire so I'm hopeful!

In the meantime, anyone want to share photos of their stacking sets?

Hi MTG!!! Don't know if this will help, but I fell in love with these stackers recently, especially because of the sideways marquise at the top. You could set your ovals that way and then have one or two bands with bezeled diamonds to break it up. Just a thought!

You want to sell them to me :appl: :cheeky: :naughty:

Ok seriously I love your eye for color MTG. They are just perfect! I can't tell you how jealous I am. I'm a bit more blingy with my rings so I don't think this will be your taste but I would do a 3 stone with the sapphire with 2 oval diamond sides if you can swing it. I like a big contrast in 3 stone rings so I would do small 3.5mm or 4mm diamonds all set W/E pave style a la the famous LM's ring that he has with tourmalines carbons. I think Dreamer had a version made with yellow diamonds (might have been someone else).

The other stone I would love to see a bezeled stacker!

Are you thinking about missydebby's Leon ring with the yellow diamond center maybe?

I was just thinking...the tone is probably light enough to look good in a bezel, and you have a good relationship with Sally and aren't afraid of sending gems overseas...why not send them to her and have her modify the pillbox setting to fit ovals (would recommend lotus but you already have a few of those)?

I thought about that too, but didn't know if I really wanted to make the monetary investment in the settings given I don't know if I"ll like the style. I think I'll just ask my jeweler to do silver bezel stackers, maybe dip one in yellow gold for contrast? Don't know which one though...

Also, how do you get them not to spin?

True, Sally has gotten expensive lately. Silver bezels would look great. (Incidentally, so would rose gold with these colors, but if you want to save...)

I think the trick to keeping them from spinning is a lot of stacked bands. When I wear my stacker sets, I usually wear 3-4 gemstone rings (with 1mm-ish bands) plus 2 spacers. With that many together, they rarely spin.

ETA: Oh, for the record, I'd probably set them north/south. I prefer more elongated shapes east/west but fatter ovals north/south.

I love the stacked/bezel set idea! could you do one N/S and the other E/W? Would that help to stabilize them?
or...
could you ask for a mini clip contraption to be built where you could 'lock' them into place??

Not sure who if you are firm on shipping them to anyone particular, but would you consider DanielM? They are great at this style! I had some rings made in argentium silver and they are not tarnishing at all.

Actually, since Enerchi mentioned Daniel M, his U-prong is a really nice style and could be raised up onto the band to fit better with spacers/other bands. And they usually run $70ish in silver.

I've been meaning to post these, but kept forgetting. Here are the jewelers photos. :) I wanted a "Watery" look

Love how those turned out!

They are really lovely MTG. And I think they look great together, do you have anymore photos to share?

I really like these...

what is the metal?

I don't know what you meant by "watery" though....

These look great!

Very nice! They look stackable too. I'd love to see your pics in real life, since the lighting isn't so great in your jeweler's pics.

Wow, already done! When do we get hand shots?

More pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully later today. I'm on my emergency rotation so my hours are crazy lol. And so sometimes I'm just never off while it's light out.
