Hi there!

This is my first time buying pearls. I fell in love with the color of this pair. However, on close up, they do look a bit "bumpy"? Is this normal?

The vendor also had other ones that looked much less bumpy, but the yellow seems less saturated. Any suggestions on what to look for? WhatsApp Image 2024-07-25 at 8.32.55 PM.jpeg

Thank you!! <3

I like deep golds so definitely prefer the color of first pair but I agree, those pearls are bumpy. Small dips, etc — I saw a few in each pearl and with only one picture you can’t know what will show up on other side of pearl.

I wouldn’t buy either personally but to be fair, on the ear, I don’t know if anybody would see/notice the bumps.

Ah, I see what you mean! Thank you both! The seller mentioned that the item was 'AA' quality and that they might have 'AAA' quality as well. From what I gathered from this forum, these gradings don't hold much significance. I requested videos for the 'AAA' quality and will keep you posted. :)

I'm back!!

So the vendor just sent me a video of the "AAA" pair.

This new pair seems lighter in color, though I'm not sure how much of it is due to the lighting. Also, I just realized that 10mm looks pretty small for studs when he held it up on his fingers. Should I try to find something bigger?

I'm seriously considering an impulse purchase of the bottom pair. Am I crazy?...

(The top pair is the same as the one in the video above.)

I definitely like the bottom pair more, is there a video?
The overtone color mismatch in the top pair would bug me even if nobody would notice with earrings when worn. I would still know lol.

I haven't asked yet... I was trying to stop myself from impulsively purchasing them since the bottom pair is twice the price of the top pair, lol. :lol-2:

It really surprises me how different the pearls look in various pictures. The top pair is supposedly the same as the pair in the left picture (and the video). I wouldn't have guessed that—they look like two completely different pairs to me. Maybe this is what NY_Resonant meant about how these pearls morph under different lighting?

Exactly, you really need all pearls in same photo (ie: similar light) to compare GSS…

With that said, I agree with MakingTheGrade that the smaller AAA has a noticeable mismatch in one Pearl having a lot more pink than the other — So I’d skip that one personally.

I bought my mom a 9mm deep GSS pair. It definitely felt like a 8.5mm white akoya to me visually, so I would not hesitate to go for 10mm-10.5mm for GSS in the future, I think the darker color for deep golds makes them visually smaller just like Tahitians…

Here are some pics in different lighting:

That's super wild!!!!! Thanks for sharing pics of your mom's beautiful GSS pair!!! I love how vibrant and glossy they look!!:love::love: They look amazing under different lighting too!

I think I’ll wait until I find a pair that I completely fall in love with before pulling the trigger. Thanks again for all your awesome feedback!!!

I love my golden GSS - it's worth the wait to find a pair that make your heart sing. The rich gold hues are not to be missed!
