I''m trying to gather some ideas for centerpieces. We don''t officially have a theme for the wedding. But we are having a whimsical "mad hatter" type cake. We''d like to pull that idea in all across the wedding. Which might be hard. I don''t want mad hatter stuff with teapots etc. I just want fun quirky stuff. I''d like the dresses to be pink. Still up the air since the church has red carpet (blah!). I''d want an accent color like turquoise or green. So a centerpiece that incorporates those colors or could be made in any color would be awesome. I''m thinking light, quirky and fun! :) Anyone have any idea? I''ve searched the net high and low and nothing is jumping out at me.

Oh, how much fun! I think you could go with a sort of a quirky English garden look for your centerpieces. I''ve been seeing lots of centerpieces that incorporate moss at the bottom. Maybe something with birdcages like this. Another possibility would be to string up paper lanterns at your reception site.

I''d love to see a photo of your cake!

Well we won''t have a picture of the cake until next year. But this is a general idea here: http://www.pat-t-cakes.com/Gallery-2009/ShowCake.php?cakenum=29021

It won''t be as flowery. More geometric designs. With a whimsical bride and groom topper. But you get the idea of the crooked look about the cake.

Here are a few more. We haven''t chosen the baker or the layout of the cake. But these are a general idea of what we like:

What do you think?

I''d like to carry more of that theme into the centerpieces - the geometry and the quirkiness (sp?) for lack of a better word.

Those are some very interesting cakes! It should be a really fun wedding. Perhaps a possible centerpiece would be to have one of those message trees (with the wires veering down in an arching manner) and on the various branches of it have quirky items like a fun pair of sunglasses, a jester''s hat, a funny flower, etc. It might continue the whimsical vibe but also be able to used as props for photos and for people to fool around with.

hoof- I love the one with the butterflies.

What about taller vases of flowers, or some plant... with ribbon or tissue paper wrapped around? Or perhaps some fern based green arrangements? What are your colors?

I''d like Pink and some other accent color. Undecided about that because the church has red carpet and I just can''t picture that.

FWIW, my sister was concerned about the carpet at her venue clashing with her decorations. Honestly, we never even noticed. You just don''t look down at weddings.

You could also always lighten the room a bit with rugs/runners in a lighter color.

I love your cake ideas!

I''m worried about it will look in pictures. I''m paranoid about pics! I want them to be great. :)

I can''t "lighten up the church" (in response to another poster) I don''t think. I mean the carpet is the carpet. There could be an aisle runner but that doesn''t affect alter pics.
