Hi all,
My MIL asked me to help her choose her first diamond studs. This will be her first significant jewelry purchase since her engagement ring many years ago. She does not have any diamond knowledge, and this will be a forever pair, no upgrading. She wants to get 2 ctw, and other than that is letting me guide her on the specs. She would like to keep the price reasonable, but only wants earth-mined. Therefore, I am thinking we should work with IDJ. I am going to show her a few diamonds in person so she can decide if she is color-sensitive. Assuming she is not, I would plan to go with I-J, SI1/2 (eye clean from 12 inches), a little fluo ok if it doesn't impact the look/clarity. She said she wants ideal cut, Pricescope quality, but I was thinking maybe due to price, we could have IDJ pick a pair of excellent cut and a pair of Pricescope quality, and then have her look at videos to decide? I am going to ask them to pick a super nice pair, and I wanted to rely on experts for this purchase since it's a significant purchase for her and I just want to do it once, and do it right. Therefore, my other question is, when going with IDJ, should I still ask for Idealscope images? If I got them, I would have to post them here for confirmation since I don't want to make the call myself. I do trust IDJ to understand the balance of specs/price/performance, so I am not sure if it's necessary? And finally, would IDJ normally provide GIA certs, and if not, should I get certs? I am thinking for this size, we should get certs. Thoughts welcome. Thank you!
