I''m going with a three stone ring with sapphires on the side. The setting is by Vatche in white gold. It sounds like they''ve only started making their settings in white gold recently. Mine will have to be modified because I''m putting larger side stones on mine than this setting shows. The side stones are two sapphires that total 1.52 carats. Barry sent me a picture of them and they look beautiful. I can''t wait to see them in person!

The diamond is 7.2 mms and the side stones are 5.4 mms each. (18 mms total) So I''m picturing that the top of the ring will be showing just stones for the most part. I''m not thrilled about paying for a "designer" setting, but by the time Barry''s jeweler altered Superbcert''s basket setting to my liking, the price would have been close to the Vatche. I like the curved look of the prongs on the Vatche, instead of the straight stick-look of some 3 stones. And I decided that the truffle setting was just too foo-foo for me. My daughter wants a truffle setting though!

So, I mailed the diamond back to Barry today. I''ll miss it, lol. But I need to get it into a ring. I dropped it yesterday and scared myself.

Wow, sounds beautiful! I can't wait to see the finished ring!

I'm getting SO nervous as I wait for this ring. Is 18mms of stones going to be too big? My ring size is a 5.25 (and I may have to go down to a 5 if that's too big). Does anyone out there have a ring like this? When I told my girlfriends what I was having made they all were shocked that I went with 3/4 carat side stones. They say it won't fit on my hand. But surely Barry and Vatche wouldn't make it if it didn't work, right? I'm just venting here and looking for reassurance I guess.

(This is where you say "It will be just FINE Patty!")

Don't you worry, Patty, they will probably just angle the side stones to follow the curve of your finger more. Then again, if it were me, I would be calling them for a photo!

Hi Patty!

I have a new stone that is 7.5mm, and my existing stone is 6.2mm. When I went into the custom jeweler (family friend) and asked if I could do a three stone ring on my size 5.75 finger (with a third stone to match the 6.2m), it was too wide at 20mm. It hung over my finger about a mm each direction. She basically told me that it could be done if I angled the sides and tucked them under the center, but that it would detract from the center and she recommended against it. But that's with 3 diamonds, not the contrasting sapphires. I think I'm going to end up with a smaller 3 stone of 6.2mm center and 5-5.5mm sides on my right hand.

Don't know if that helps...but there are some similarities.

Patty,

I just measured the stones across my ring and they measure approx 18mm and I have a 4 1/2 ring size (I do not have a three stone ring, however I measured where my side diamonds start and end and that includes my center stone). I agree with Caratgirl that they will angle the stones which is how mine appears. I really think you should ask for pics along the way so that you can satisfy yourself regarding your decision.

I am sure they will understand!

Your ring sounds simply gorgeous!!

Thanks for the input cg, lurker and icelady! Barry said they'd have nice pictures for me when it was finsihed but I never thought to ask for them beforehand. I mean, if it's being custom made, once it's made it will be sent to me, right? It's not like it's sitting there already made waiting for someone to buy it.

icelady, thanks for measuring your ring...That is encouraging. And cg and lurker, I'm okay with them angling the sapphires but I don't like the idea of "tucking under." I had my choice of these two sapphires or two that totalled 1.35cts that were 4.5mms each. I asked Barry to check with his sapphire provider as to the prettier stones and his provider said that the larger (5.4mm) stones "presented richer" so I went with them.

Cool Patty, Post when your ring is finished..
