I hope this works. I've never posted a pic before. This is the diamond that my Dad will give my Mom for their 40th wedding anniversary. The diamond is in a temporary setting so that my mom will be able to choose her setting. I was hoping to get some ideas on possible settings. The diamond is 1.67 carats. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking a ring that can stand alone and does not require a wedding band would be best because Mom is not used to wearing a wedding band.

Everytime you say "ring" do you mean to say diamond? So that is the diamond he has ready and you want help with finding a setting? I am confused :)

Oops. I''ll fix that. Too excited!

This is AggieTexan''s ring, one of my favorites on PS. I think this would look great on its own with no band, and it''s got the 3-stone look that I love too with no band.

Wow. That is beautiful. Obviously, this diamond was purchased at Whiteflash. On their site, it seems like they only show Whiteflash designs. Can they get other settings from designers like Tacori, Ritani, etc.?

The new ring is so pretty - I am so excited for your mom to receive it! Don''t you just think she will be blown away?

There are so many beautiful settings - at least she has the gift of time so that she can look around until she finds the right one.

Aw, it looks great waiting!

I don''t have any setting suggestions, as I don''t know your mom. But wasn''t she going to pick it out? I guess I thought she''d be hitting up jewelry stores around her....

What a lovely diamond for an important anniversary! Thanks so much for sharing!

beautiful stone! and i love that setting; it could definitely handle stand-alone status. does your mom use her hands alot (i.e. frequent gardening/cooking,etc)? is there anything you can tell us about her style, so that we might better make suggestions?

How fabulous! Lucky mom!
No suggestions for a setting ... just wanted to say that that is a lovely diamond!

What a great surprise for your mom!

I''d say, show her the settings on the WF site (and no, they do not carry Tacori, Ritani, etc.). Then take her to a couple of the best jewelers in your city and let her try on some settings. She may decide to choose something totally different than she had before. There are so many more styles now than when I got married! In addition, she may wish to keep the plain solitaire setting and get a diamond wedding band to wear with it. But I''d either have WF set it or someone local.

This is my 1.5 ct F VS2 upgrade combo wedding ring-engagement ring that I got for my 25th wedding anniversary about 8 years ago. It''s set in platinum with graduated orange to yellow to white matching channel set side diamonds. I always wear it solo, with no wedding band. It doesn''t need one, and no one has ever doubted that it''s a wedding ring.

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions. My Mom will be picking out her own setting but I was trying to get some ideas for her. She is very indecisive!

WOW....AWESOME DIAMOND.....your Mom will have fun picking out her special setting for it!

How sweet your mom is going to love that. Did you help your dad pick it out?

Wow it''s so lovely! So, your mom isn''t used to a band eh? ''cause it would look so gorgeous with a diamond band!

I also think a classic three stone would be gorgeous. Can''t wait to see what your mom picks!

Lucky Mom! Congratulations on 40 years!

I think it''s gorgeous as is. A split shank with pave could also work for someone that may not be wearing a wedding band.

Hey MMT, Dad helped with the stone by paying for it. You could say all the work he did to earn the money was really much harder than the work I did trying to find a stone, right?

I like the knife edge setting the diamond is currently in. I have the same band for my engagement ring but mine is a way smaller stone .82

I think it would lovely in any setting, you almost cant go wrong with a stone from WF

Your lucky lucky mom! It is a beautiful stone!

Lucky lady your mom is!

Beautiful diamond!

Gorgeous diamond!

I love it just the way it is...your mom is a lucky lady!

What a beautiful diamond! I agree with the others that a diamond band with the solitaire would be stunning!! What's your mom's style? I have an antique setting for my e-ring that could stand alone, but antique settings aren't for everyone.

What has she been wearing for the past 40 years?

You said she''s not used to wearing a band... I''m just wondering to get a better idea of what would suit her!

Ah, how sweet and thank you for sharing. That is one Knock out stone, gorgeous
