band if worn together?

that's a pretty vague question, I'd ask the vendor you'd be purchasing from...or give more specifcs aka what kind of e-ring and what does it look like.

obviously metal on metal is different than diamond on diamond.

I''am planning to order a 5 stone ring with shared prong (basket style) for my wife,if she wear it on top of her e-ring would it scratch up the e-ring band? it''s more like diamond to metal because the solitaire e-ring would be higher.

I think there will be a chance for scratching anytime there is diamond to metal contact. My wife''s shared prong eternity band scratches the other ring it is next to. We don''t worry about too much. Rings are meant to worn. We just get them polished every year or so.

Dancing Fire,

I just talked about my problem with this on the eternity wedding set thread. Sorry, I don''t know how to post the link. I just discovered this morning that very problem. I have a 5 stone shared prong that I''ve had for about three weeks and it has already worn deep grooves into my prongs on my ER. My B&M''s bench jeweler will try and polish them out tomorrow. What I ended up doing was buying a very thin and narrow band to put between the two rings. It sits low so it is not very noticeable. I figured if the grooves were that noticeable after just three weeks, what would it do after a few months!

What a GREAT idea! I''m worried that my wedding band won''t sit flush with my e-ring because my e-ring sits rather low (and I can''t raise it because of the size of the diamond). At any rate, I never thought of buying a thin platinum band to wear between them! That''s such a smart idea!!!

Dave,

That is exactly what is happening. The girdles hit about mid prong when on my finger, so a lot of scratching already.

Researcher,

Thanks. I bought the smallest, thinnest band they had. Can''t be much more than 1-1.5mm and it is flat vs. rounded so it sits kind of underneath both rings. There is just enough there to keep them separate but underneath the girdles. I''m hoping this works!

thanks guy's, will see what happens, her e-ring is mounted on a cheap 14k wg setting so it won't be an expensive lesson even if it's damage or should i change to a different style setting?

I wanted to stress here how important it is that people consider what kind of w-ring they want when they are choosing/buying/designing their e-ring. I would bet alot of people do not take this into consideration and then later realize oh oops and then are left trying to piecemeal a way to make things work. Personally it would drive me nuts to have to wear a spacer band, I don't want three rings, no matter how thin one is...I also want a streamlined matching look as well...so when I was choosing my e-ring, I specifically made sure that I could design a band that would work with it.

So just a note to those considering e-rings still..think about your w-band at the same time, so it doesn't become a hindsight or a problem later!

Which is also why I''m a huge advocate of involving the woman in the e-ring decision so you can contemplate the entire purchase in terms of a wedding set.

Well, that''s certainly something that is important to consider when you are buying the whole package at one time, however, sometimes the anniversary band or eternity wr comes along later as a gift and changing your ER is not an option.

My comment was directed more towards people who are currently shopping for their e-ring rather than anniversary gifts. Aka those gals who are thinking of getting some fabulous design aka Leon Mege or another style and then realizing later that a w-ring doesn''t quite go or they''d have to get some wrap style or have a gap that they do not want etc. Esp since LM is not keen on designing for w-bands!

We see alot of Q''s like this on here...so I reiterate again...while choosing the e-ring, think about the w-ring!! Whether it''s a year from now or 2 years or 3 years...at least give it a bit of thought, it could save you some pain later.

We designed my e-ring almost 2 years before we got my w-ring...but I thought about it while we were doing the e-ring...and I''m so glad I did. I stipulated the head must be high enough to have a w-ring sit flush. Some random w-ring or eternity style would not work with my e-ring due to the way the eternity was done...I had to get a similar match and think about it early.
