Zumba class is cancelled, right? ;)

I just had to do that, because I never could have dreamed this up otherwise. Or at least, I wouldn't have had the idea to send in pics of some prize winning Japanese Maples I grew years ago. :)

Wow…

The layering of the leaves, just like thick foliage, the randomness, the two flowers - does the different colour in the CAD mean a different metal? Will the melee in the flowers be diamond? I love how you pulled the flower petals down all the way to the bottom of the gallery… Are you doing the two sides with different foliage or flower patterning?

What a way to memorialize those maples. Holy sh*t. This is a seriously gorgeous and amazing and vibrant and inspirational design!!! This ring will be artwork that belongs on the wall with a placard when it’s not on your finger… o_O:kiss2:

Both sides are identical.

The layering comes from my maples, and how the leaves naturally look.

The ring will be platinum, except the lillies, they're yellow gold with a tiny diamond center.
The lillies also came from an old pic of mine.

You have a green thumb ::) This ring looks like a really beautiful translation of that. It looks so lush from the top view. I’m super happy for you - it’s beautiful

Wow, what a fabulous art piece this will be! I can't wait to see it finished.

How neat! This is going to be so nice. I can't wait to see the finished ring!

I like it too!

Thank you. And to think I don't have a creative bone in my body! The only input I gave was "Here's my Maples and Iris", and "Make them a little thicker over the 60 point stones". That's it, David drew the rest.

Just for grins I played with a color inverter. :kiss2:1682651187781.png

To enhance the red maple leaves, have you ever considered having the leaves made in rose gold? I think that would be very pretty and absolutely unique. This is a work of art. I look forward to see your ring when it's finished.

I considered it for maybe 2 seconds then remembered that I can't stand rose gold. Was a cool idea, though, thanks.

:shock:Gobsmacked. Beautiful.
I'm jealous. For real.
It's amazing and it's going to be signature piece. I can't wait to see this.

So looking forward to seeing this done! Love the unique design.

I came back for another look at this  and had another thought - what alloy of platinum are you using @Rons Wolfe? Do you have a preference or did they have a rec?

That's a good question, I have no idea. I just thought platinum was platinum. Is there a preferred alloy?

For your ring I wouldn’t say “preferred” so much as “they’ll wear differently, do you have a preference”, if that makes sense?

Platinum is alloyed by weight per thousand parts… Common alloys are 950 alloyed with iridium (95% platinum by weight), 950 alloyed with ruthenium (also 95% platinum by weight), and 900 alloyed with iridium (90% platinum by weight)… I’ve also seen cobalt and palladium alloys but those are much less common and you should run away from those because you’ll never be able to find another jeweller who works with them and can do maintenance on the piece!!

950/Ir, 900/Ir, and 950/Ru all have all the usual desirable platinum characteristics. Low elasticity, when you polish you aren’t polishing metal away, etc. But the 950/Ir alloy is significantly less scratch-resistant than the other two. Which means it’ll patina way faster. Like, wayyyyyy faster - weeks vs. years to show the same amount of scratching/patina. I’ve owned both!

Most people prefer to stave the patina off for as long as possible. But for you, for your ring - maybe that’s not the case? I could see a patina on the maple leaves being desirable, for example, unless you’re planning to add another texture to them?

The one thing I might recommend if they haven’t started casting is to go with 950/Ru or 900/Ir for the shank and prongs. The reason for that being - the sides of the prongs are going to be well protected, because of the intricate gallery, so whatever finish you’ve decided on will stay fresh as-is for a very long time. Keeping the shank in the same scratch-resistant alloy will keep the shank matching the fresh and pristine prongs for longer between repolishing ::)

Gosh, this is completely lovely & I can’t wait to see the finished ring!

What a work of art!

I love this so much! I love it in the green and red cad colors and will also love it when it is made in metal. I can't wait to see it.

This is the joy from working with a good bench and doing custom work! You are going to have a totally one of a kind item that will be fabulous.

I like Yssie’s suggestion that you may want the patina on your maple leaves. I have had clients who absolutely love the patina to the point where we have to remind the bench jeweler not to polish the patina away when tightening prongs or sizing the ring.

Like others here, I am excited to see the finished ring.

Omg omg—stumbled across this and I am so excited for you!!

Such a cool project!! Really looking forward to seeing the finished piece :kiss2:

Just read this thread. Punt me in as another who is excited to see the actual ring. It’s gorgeous from the CAD!

Not gonna lie, I’m excited every time I see this thread in bold and then disappointed every time I catch up and it’s not Rons Wolfe with an update!!
