New LIW here... I'll try to sum up my story into as few words as possible (yeah, right!)

I met my other half 3.5 years ago, we've been living together for 18 months. A little over a year ago at my brother's wedding, the boy's mom (I was so happy my brother invited her!) pulled him aside and asked what his timeline was. He said something about Christmas. He told me about this a few months later when he randomly brought up the topic of ring shopping (!!!!), after some additional prodding by his mom. So off we went, looking at rings and eventually falling in love with a Tacori setting.

Months passed. He brought it up a few times, saying something about possibly going back to buy the setting "next month." I said I didn't want any more to do with the process. He knew the setting I liked, and he knew I wanted a sapphire (I'd given several color references). I couldn't outright ask about the progress, because I wanted to be surprised. But I knew (like we women always KNOW) that he hadn't done anything.

So I spent my free time browsing PS, soaking up knowledge about colored stones. I found out about Andrew & Laura at Gemfix. One day a few months ago, I spotted it on their site. My stone! I contemplated hinting about it, somehow subtly suggesting that he browse the site, but I decided to opt for a more direct route - I told him this was it and we better snatch it up before someone else did. He agreed!

And there it sits, in our safe... while I wait... patiently. :halo:

:wavey: Hi!
good job with snagging your stone! Any idea of when things will happen? Which tacori setting is it? pictures!

Thanks, nicstx!

No idea when it will be... since we last looked at rings (August), we've celebrated our anniversary, Christmas, Vday and a few weeks ago, my 28th birthday. I'd like to say he's holding out for a big surprise, but the truth is he is totally dragging his feet! (sigh) But he's amazing and I'm willing to wait... ;)) (not without my bouts of impatience and many not-so-subtle hints from both of our mothers, but that's another story for another day...) In the meantime, we are just enjoying our relationship the way it is.

The original setting we loved was Tacori 3003, but I've just started looking at other ones again, and I'm really, really digging a Scott Kay ring I spotted. (M1216) Anyone have any ideas for something similar?

Here's the stone ... Laura was amazing to deal with. The whole thing happened so quickly - it seemed like it was at our door just a few days after I first laid eyes on it:

welcome! well done for snatching up that stone - it is STUNNING! the colour is just so perfect. how exciting :) you seem to be coping with it well, just come rant to us when you need to :D

Hi and welcome! :wavey:

Is it possible since you were "waiting" on him and then suddenly told him you had picked a stone that he then willingly bought, that he is now waiting/assuming that the setting will be the same? That he figures you either have not picked out the setting yet or are still deciding between a few or that despite all these hints, you still are not totally ready? Maybe he does not want to disappoint by just picking something on his own to surprise you and since you had liked the Tacori but now have some others in mind, he thinks you will "announce" when you are totally sure and them have it set?

Just a thought......I could be totally wrong! Have you guys ever discussed a timeline?

Welcome!

What a beautiful stone! I love the rich colour- it almost looks purple in some areas.

Phd may have a point. It sounds like you haven't even decided for sure which setting you do in fact want. Do you think he knows that? Maybe he's waiting for a cue?

Only you know him personally. Do you think he's just not into the shopping and wants you to pick the setting? Or do you think he really isn't ready and is truly dragging his feet?

Welcome! What a beautiful stone. Can't wait to see it in whatever setting you choose.

I hope your stay is short. Pick a setting already so he can propose!

ooohhhh it's pretty...

link us to some rings, i could always continue ring shopping through you :naughty:

I've also got a gemfix sapphire to be set! What are the rest of the stats on your stone?

Congrats and welcome!

welcome! your stone is gorgeous! I'll have to look up those settings when I get a chance to see what they look like. you are definitely coping quite well though haha. please keep us updated when you find out a possible timeline!!

Welcome, gatorblue! Love your stone! :wavey:

Your sapphire is soo pretty! Care to link some of the settings you're considering?

Thanks so much for the warm welcome, everyone! :))

The stone is 1.4 ct, 6.9 mm and was cut by Andrew. I love the color - can't wait to take more pictures when it's finally set. I suspected he hadn't done much searching, so I was looking on a few different sites every few days when I spotted this one at GF. I totally contradicted my "I don't want to know any more details" speech, but I really didn't want to miss out on getting this one.

That's been the toughest part for me. We picked out (what I thought was) "the" setting, so I wanted my part to be done with and not have to drop any hints. I'm definitely the planner in the relationship.... weekends, vacations, events, etc. So it's been excruciating to sit and wonder if anything was actually being planned! I go back and forth between feeling like an impatient brat to feeling like things should be happening. But when I stop and think about it, it's not a terrible problem to have.. so I mostly keep my mouth shut. :halo:

Anyway, since it's been awhile, and since I've been looking up the setting every month or so (OK, possibly more often), I'm wondering if it's still the one. I knew he was probably relieved when I ended up picking out the stone, because he wanted me to have something I truly loved. So phdecorate, your point about the setting is probably true!

I did show him the new one I found and we both like it, so now we just need to go see it in person. I'll subtly suggest that we go look at some different settings sometime soon, so we can be 100% sure.

As much as I originally was hoping to pick things out ahead of time and not be involved, it's probably all happening the way it's supposed to. I'm bad at hiding disappointment (even when i don't say anything), so he'd be able to tell if I didn't like what he picked, and I'd feel horrible about that!

Here are the settings I was talking about:

I could have sworn I already said hi in here, but I guess it didn't post?

so welcome :wavey:

lol, your stone was one of the ones I narrowly missed out on and I was SO UPSET! I'm really happy with the one I got though :) Ours are nearly sisters!

Maebelle, I might have you to thank for getting him to pull the trigger then!! After exchanging a few emails, Laura told me someone else was interested, and that's why SO made the purchase that day as soon as I got home from work.

I know it's silly to feel bad, but I'm sorry! I'm glad you found the perfect one though - I remember seeing yours and thinking WOW that is gorgeous (a deep, very vivid blue if i remember correctly), and it looks very similar to ours - hooray for sister stones! Can't wait to see your finished ring!

Don't feel bad! I was holding out for something with an AGL cert, so I'm glad I waited. I'm glad my interest kicked your SOs butt into gear :Up_to_something:

awwwww and PS brings 2 long-lost "sisters" together!!!! love it!!

Ditto. Everything happens for a reason. This is your stone. The other ended up being maebelles. I know my diamond (an ebay find) was on several other PSers watch lists. We got it first. It happens! Just promise to share photos of the finished ring!!

hello and welcome!! your sapphire is just perfectly lovely! i love the color and cut! when you know it's the one, you just know!

in terms of the setting, maybe you can find a jeweler that has both settings or could get both settings for you to look at, and you could try them both on at the same time and pick which one you like better. i'm also very indecisive with settings, i have about 7 bookmarked, and i love them all! i'm still a little ways away from engagement, but i've had no problem looking around and trying to find a nice deal on an antique cut, and like you, i'm hoping that if i can find the one, we can snatch it up.

in any case, please update us when you find the setting you choose, and ANY pictures!

Update!!!

We went to look at settings today - I didn't think we were going to find 'the one,' but we did! In 30 days (or possibly less), the finished ring will be in SO's hands - almost 1 year to the day since we first looked at rings. (Not that I've been keeping track or anything... haha.)

The setting is a Scott Kay "Heaven's Gate" (the one Tacori sued them over). The jeweler even colored the sample's CZ with a blue Sharpie so I could see what it would look like with my stone! So funny.

Here's a pic from another jeweler:

 So excited!

It's beautiful gatorblue!! And how awesome that they colored the CZ to help you visualize it better!!

Can't wait to see it all together!

huh that's bizarre. the profile does remind me of tacori's crescents but seriously...how many possible iterations of designs can you really have before nothing is original anymore? in any case, it's very pretty!!! and so adorable of the jeweler to show you what the blue stone would look like! I hope you come back with real pictures to show us soon!!!

Wow, that stone is amazing. I cannot wait to see it in the setting !!! :)

Thanks guys! I'm extremely excited. I can't wait to see the finished product!
Pandabee, I know what you mean.. after he told me about the lawsuit, I went home and looked at the Tacori rings again (we'd looked at them last year when we went setting shopping). They have many similarities, no doubt, but I could definitely tell the difference. I guess that's why the judge sided with SK.
So he told his mother (they're very close) and she is beyond excited. I couldn't help it and told my mom, too. She's already trying to scope out things for the reception and asking about dates and colors and decor. (No Pinterest boards... yet.) I've decided to just let her be as excited as she wants to be. ;))

Now.. how can I completely forget about the ring so I can be surprised??? I guess I need to stop coming on here and looking at all the eye candy (like maebelle's ring- just saw it and I love it!!)

awwww yay that your future MIL is so excited!!! glad to hear that your own mother isn't plotting pinterest boards yet hehe. take it as a good sign that everyone is so happy and excited for you!! maybe focus on planning the wedding to help forget the ring for the time being? or something else? I don't know, I have not been there so I don't have any good suggestions hehe. **dust** that it happens soon!!!!
