Hi everyone!

I thought I''d give up my lurker status and post virginity in one go.

(I am lucky #130 on the LIW)

I have been admiring all of your lovely ring pictures and suddenly thought of this: I read that many of you don''t wear/aren''t planning to wear your rings while working out/doing dishes etc. Where do you keep/plan to keep your rings during this time if a stop home to drop them off is too inconvenient? Any tips on preventing ring loss?

I would totally be the kinda girl to accidentally lose a $4K ring because I took it off to apply hand lotion.... So help save me from my (hopefully, future ring owning) self?

Um. I think that most women leave them at home if they are going to do something that might be dangerous for their rings (work out, yard work, moving boxes, etc). After we get married I will probably only wear my engagement ring for special occasions or if I dress up. When I''m not I''ll probably put it in a safe. If I were to carry it with me, I''d have a small purse or a ring box in my purse to put it in.

I know there are ladies who have boxes in their desks at their offices and in their purses for when they think their ring might be in danger.

Hi, welcome!

Whatever you do, do NOT under any circumstances put it on the counter/mirror/sink or whatever. It's so easy to leave it there after you wash your hands. I've lost my high school ring this way at the airport

When I'm at home I tend not to wear it. I tend to bang my hands just by putting dishes away, and I do too many housework to put it on and off.
I only wear it when I go out, and then I almost never take it off. Sometimes when I put on my jacket or backpack, my ring gets caught so I put it in my pocket when I'm doing that. Most ladies will disagree with me, but my jeans are so tight the ring doesn't go anywhere if I forget to put it back on. Still, I've only done that once. I've gotten used to being careful when putting on my jacket, and I never put my left hand in my purse anymore. Actually I don't do much with my left hand now.

First thing I do when I go back home is to put the ring in its box. It was a very natural routine that I didn't have to get used to it.
When I go jogging or if I know that I'm going to be doing physical labor like helping someone move, I leave it at home.
I think most ladies here will say that if they are outdoors wearing the ring, they will rather dab the lotion on it than risk losing the ring. It's easier to clean it than to live with yourself after losing it

I fully plan on wearing my ring all the time!! The only time I think I''d take it off is to go rock climbing and to wash the dishes. Those times I''d just put it by the sink or choro''s ring box sounds like a perfect idea. Who knows though....I think you''ll just have an internal instinct on how to properly take care of something so precious, you know?

I will probably wear my enagement ring excitedly (is that word?) while i''m engaged, and to special events of course. When i''m married I will most likely wear my wedding band on a daily basis. I am very minimal when it comes to jewlery. I wear diamond stud earrings and don''t venture into costume jewlery, etc. so I dunno, a part of me thinks I will loose something if I wear too much? lol Maybe i''m just paranoid. I plan to just wear the wedding band by itself on a daily basis.

I would suggest not EVER taking your ring off if you''re somewhere outside of home. Dont take it off to wash your hands, put lotion on, etc. If you know you''re going to be doing yard work, swimming, etc. then plan to leave it at home in a safe place.

Some ladies wear a necklace and string their ring onto it during times they''re worried about damaging it.

Any time that I take my ring off I leave it in the box it came with. That way I always know where it is.

When I do take mine off it will go on the chain that I wear. I NEVER take it off unless it''s getting a US bath at the jewelers. I work out 3 days a week and plan on adding to my chain when I do that too. If it gets too heavy I will have to think of something else, but I just don''t want to part with my ring

I''ve heard that putting it on a chain is rather risky due to the chances of it coming undone, not fastened properly, getting snagged on something, etc. I am not sure why I would ever want to take it off in public, but would probably keep a velvet drawstring bag with me to store it in just in case--in its box the rest of the time (like in the shower, while doing the dishes).

I think it''s generally safest on my finger, so most of the time I''ll just keep it there.

Good point Gwen, never thought of that! I''m of the original mindset to not take it off in public either but I lift weghts and wear gloves and not sure how that will work with my ring (when I get it, hehehe

) But maybe I can try a bigger pair? I HAVE seen many women wearing their ring at the gym and I flirt with the idea sometimes... But I just don''t know yet... we''ll see when the time comes I guess....

I have a zippered pocket in my purse that I put it in in a pinch. But I also often have a small cheapo ring box with me. But really if I know I am going to be doing something hard on my hands I leave it at home.

My mom is a pharmacist and she occasionally works in the IV room at the hospital (where you do sterile compounding) and you''re not allowed to wear any jewelry. She gets one of those big safety pins and pins her rings to the inside of her bra cup. So far, so good... it would be a lot of work just to wash your hands or put on lotion, but if you need it off for an extended period of time, it would work.

I also had a friend that had a $15K ring, and she put in down on the counter at the mall to apply lotion....... and left it! She almost wrecked her car when she realized what she had done on the way home. LUCKILY, the lady working the counter found it and held on to it for her, so she got it back!

I plan on wearing at most all times because i don''t work out (i should...oh well!) and like others said, I''d rather put lotion on my ring than lose it. Also, i wear gloves when i do the dishes.
