Hi everyone!

After doing some research online, my boyfriend and I purchased this diamond/setting from James Allen. It just arrived, and we have no idea if we made a good purchase. Whether or not it was a “good deal” or not isn’t necessarily our concern now that we have it (we paid $3100 CAD for the diamond), but we are looking for professional opinions on whether this is a good quality diamond that I’ll be happy with. In hindsight, I wish I stumbled upon this forum sooner!!! We are within our return window so if there are obvious issues, please feel feee to let me know if we did good (?) :)

Here is a link to a photo/video dump with videos and pictures in different lighting as well as the idealscope images and AGS certificate. Thanks in advance!!!

I think it's a solid stone with good light performance. Are you happy with it? The prices on JA are usually aligned with other vendors (they arent the cheapest vendor but not the most expensive either).

Thank you! I think I really love it haha, I'm just so out of my element when it comes to diamonds and we were both concerned about it coming in the mail and looking hazy or milky.

It looks fully transparent to me and I feel we did our due diligence, but we take some comfort in other opinions for sure, especially here when there's such vast knowledge and expertise! Sadly we only have a few local jeweler options and they all told us to avoid JA but we did it anyway. So I wouldn't trust them to be honest and tell me if we got a quality diamond.

Most local jewelers will tell you crazy stories about online stones in order to scare you into purchasing from them, so I also wouldnt bother asking them haha. If you love it then dont worry at all. It's a solid stone and I think the price is fair for the specs.

Looks good to my eyes!

The only bit of concern that I would have is that the cert states "clouds not shown" in the comments section, and this can mean there are some cloudy/hazy traits in the diamond, but not always. If it's clean and not blurry or hazy looking in some parts while looking at it in various lighting conditions, then you've got a real winner.

Thank you for your comments!

So, I did see this comment on the cert and it did concern me, but I was of the impression that it's only a red flag in lower clarity grades, and if it says "clarity BASED on clouds not shown". Whereas "clouds not shown" means they are too insignificant to plot.

Thoughts anyone???

You have it right. No concern about a VS1 with clouds not shown

^correct. Vs1 is unlikely to have a cloud effect. This is a lovely stone and setting and it looks spectacular on your hand. Congratulations!

You understand the nomenclature correctly.

"Clouds not shown" usually indicates that there are some clouds detected under high magnification inspection, but they are so small that they are not worth plotting.

As the opener of the wallet, always check for yourself when the word "cloud" appears on the cert, regardless of the context. Humans do the grading and assessing of diamonds and one person's opinion of an inclusion may vary quite a bit from another person's opinion of the same inclusion in the same diamond...nobody is perfect.

If it's clear and clean, then you've got a real keeper - love the fire in it!

That's a beautiful stone! Awesome purchase

By the way, no worries with clarity. You understood the notes correctly. More importantly, in the video & super zoom video you can tell this stone isn't hazy.

I think you guys did very well. I am curious if JA had this listed as a True Hearts (TH) stone as I noticed you had both an ideal scope & hearts image. The hearts has very minor imperfections, but overall very strong. When strong backlighting is accounted for, the ideal scope shows a tiny bit of leakage but nothing to be overly concerned about IMO.

The stone has a 34.9 crown/40.9 pavilion combo, which breaks the normal rule of an inverse relationship between crown & pavilion. Normally we'd recommend a steep crown with shallow pavilion, or vice versa. So a 35/40.6 or 34/41. We sometimes see these general guidelines broken in super ideals, where precision cutting allows them to make unique combos like this work very well (where they may fail in a lesser quality cut stone).

Again, I think you guys did very well overall. Be proud of your purchase and enjoy the new bling!
