I'm looking to trade the stone in for something different, to make it new.
I've learned that the EGL rating is hurting it.
I was thinking I'd spend the $169 and have it graded by GIA in Carlsbad.
In having it graded I hope it keeps both I and SI2 rating, but even if it keeps one of those ratings will it help with Resale or Trade?
I originally paid 8,000 out the door.
Thank you all for your help in advance!!!!

I can pretty much promise you that it won't grade GIA I SI2 if you only paid $8000! I would say that you may as well try to sell it as it is. Plenty of people out there don't know the difference in grading labs, and I SI2 will sound better than J or K SI2. I will tell you that a GIA very good cut, 2 ct. I SI2 runs around $15k, so that tells us that you definitely have a stone that will grade lower than I SI2.

I would attempt to sell outright to an individual and then come back here and let us help you find a really well cut stone!

Not sure if this helps or makes it more confusing, I bought it private party initially.
Thanks!

I see. It is just extremely likely that the stone will grade lower by GIA, especially in color (1-2 grades) and maybe clarity. To be honest, the info on that stone is not great, so I probably wouldn't invest in stricter grading that is going to make the stone sound worse!

I see 2 ct GIA J SI2's (good cut) around $10-12k and K SI2 around $8500 to $10k.

You got an okay deal if the stone is at least K SI2 by GIA standards, so you may be lucky and get a good percentage of your money back. There are people out there looking for large stones at a low price who don't care too much about the reliability of the grading report.

I agree...Craigslist, and agree to meet at a jeweler who can verify to the buyer that the stone is the one in the report.
