My fiance just booked our honeymoon.

He was dying to go somewhere with white sandy beaches, so I agreed to go with one of the Sandals all-inclusives. He finally agreed to let me help choose which resort/room - I couldn''t stand there being any surprises in my wedding plans! Looks like we''re doing 5 nights at the Grande Ochos Rios in a Honeymoon Penthouse Oceanfront Concierge Room. We''d wanted to do 6 nights, but decided to save a little money and a little stress by cutting off a day. This way we can leave on Monday after our Saturday wedding, and still be back the following Saturday. I can''t wait! The hard part will be getting my man to dress up enough to meet the resort dress codes

I looked at the link - it looks Beautiful Faerievert!
I''m sure you''ll have a wonderful time on your honey moon.
Five nights in a Honeymoon Penthouse Oceanfront Concierge Room - Oooooo! Nice.

Scintillating...

how fun! white sandy beaches sound great. is that in jamaica? just an fyi i have heard that it''s getting (has been?) more and more unsafe for tourists in the surrounding areas, if you stay on the resorts they say you will be fine but i wouldn''t venture too far out...

I am so excited for you. How fun!

Sounds cool! I just returned from a cruise and one of the stops was Ocho Rios. It''s a really hilly place and has a busy town center. I have stayed there before as a "non-tourist" as well, we stayed with some friends. Ocho Rios downtown definitely has an "urban" feel to it, but you should be fine at the resort. Just keep in mind that the vendors at the flea market in town are very aggressive. Practice your "no, thank you''s" before you venture out to shop. And don''t be afraid to negotiate. There is a strong police presence in the center of town, so I wouldn''t worry about safety too much during daylight hours. Just use your head. And have fun!!!!

Congrats! I also just got back from my honeymoon cruise where we went to Ocho Rios. Star Princess on the Oct. 30 sailing (the infamous "Bear" cruise).

Remember, if you venture outside of the resort, just say no to everything. And negotiate taxi fare BEFORE getting in unless one of those gov''t regulated taxis.

Hurray for booking!
I mean isn''t really cool to think that you have a honeymoon to look forward to?
I''m super happy for you!

I love Jamaica, you''ll have a great time!

Ooh, how exciting! I''m getting married in Jamaica (Negril) & can''t wait! Are you going to swim w/ the dolphins in Ocho Rios? I heard Dunns River Falls is beautiful too.

I''m not sure if we''ll do any of the out of resort trips. Stories about locals being bad to the tourists have me a little nervous about going off-property. The falls sound cool though. It''ll depend how I''m doing healthwise by then. I got a blood clot in the lung (pulmonary embolism) a couple weeks ago (we think caused by ortho evra patches), so now I''m on blood thinners and can''t drink alcohol. They assure me I''ll only be on them for 6 months, but that still cuts pretty close to the big day. If they extend it on me- no chilling by the pool getting tipsy for me

Would that not totally suck at an all-inclusive? So here''s hoping I''m off in time to get the full experience. If not, I''ll do more activities to keep me otherwise occupied.

I''ve been to Jamaica 5 times and still love going back. We''ve stayed at different resorts in Mo'' Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril. Once you''re on the resort in OR, you''ll forget how busy the towne''s center is. You''ll be amongst lush green gardens and beautiful beaches.

BS...you won''t go wrong in Negril at all!!! Less touristy...less urban....and the 7 mile white sands beach is incredible!!! This has become our favorite spot on the island!!!!

Faerievert--I hope you''re ok now! The blood clot sounds pretty scary, but am glad to hear you have the situation under control. That would indeed suck to not be able to enjoy the cocktails at your all-inclusive resort. But at least there will be lots of other activities to keep you busy if you have to stay away from the bar.

AChi...I''m totally excited for Negril & really appreciate your talking w/ me before I booked to help me make my decision!

Now I''m trying to figure out what the boy can wear to our wedding that doesn''t make him pass out in the heat!

BS...glad I could help out!!! As far as what FI could wear...what are you wearing? Formal wedding dress? Or something more "tropical"? Do not have your FI wear rayon!!! DH tried to do this and it doesn''t let the skin breathe!!! In dry heat, rayon''s great! But in the tropics, forget it....We stood up as witnesses for a wedding in Ocho Rios. She wore a lacy knee-length dress and he wore a cotton long-sleeved shirt (sleeves cuffed up to mid-arm) and a pair of dockers also rolled up to mid-calf. They got married right on the beach where the water meets the sand. It was perfect and he seemed to keep somewhat cool (much more than my DH who was sweating to death in his rayon!).

AChi, I don''t want to hijack Faerievert''s thread, but I''d love your opinions on my FI''s attire. I have a thread going here with some ideas including a pic of my dress. Thanks! (That''s a great tip about the rayon, btw!)

Faerievert: Dunns River Falls is a really fun thing to do...you guys will love it. It''s not far away from where you''re staying, and it''s a safe place to go. You have a tour guide and you hold hands with everyone else in your group and climb up the falls. Bring a waterproof camera (the guide takes pictures of you with your own camera--my husband and I have some awesome shots of him holding me in the waterfalls and us kissing) and be sure to buy those aqua sox (you can get them at a sporting goods store), otherwise you have to rent them there and other people''s feet have been in them--ew! One more tip: at the end, tip your guide and ask him to direct you the fastest way back out to the parking lot where your driver is. Otherwise you end up going through a maze of vendors who will not let you out without buying something!!! Oh, and make sure to wear clothes you don''t mind getting wet in--you will be all the way in the water at times, not deep water, but submerged!

ooh, that does sound fun, and FH would probably like it too. What are these aqua sox? Oh, and I got my genetic tests back with good results, so I should be off the blood thinners in 6 months or less! Cocktails all around!

What are these aqua sox?

Aqua sox are water shoes that you can buy from any Target store. They are hideously colored (pink/purple or purple/green...you get the idea) with rubber soles. They work REALLY well in Dunn''s River Falls and give you protection and help for the traction on the slippery rocks you will climb. I''ve uploaded a pic for you to give you an idea of what they look like.

Ah yes, those silly things. I think I might have a pair somewhere, we''ll definitely pick some up before we go. Waterproof cameras were already on the list for snorkling. Now you''ve gone and gotten me all excited about this, and I still have almost 7 months to wait!
