We met with a travel agent today because we''re REALLY having a hard time deciding where we want to go for the honeymoon. The best option our agent found for us that is in our price range is an all-inclusive resort called Excellence in Puenta Cana. It got pretty good reviews on tripadvisor.com, but a few people commented that the water is kinda rough. This was my only concern with Puenta Cana since it is on the Atlantic Ocean side of Domincan Republic rather than the Carribean Sea side. Have any of you ever been there? Any comments/suggestions?

Hi! We went to Punta Cana last May. We stayed at the Riu Palace. It was fabulous! We absolutely loved it! I''ve been to a lot of caribbean islands, and I didn''t think the water was too rough at all. It was perfect when we were there. Not sure what time of year you''re going, but it was extremely HOT in May. Had to get in the water, couldn''t lay out too long. But it was amazing. I highly recommend it!

One of my sisters got married and honeymooned there about 2 and a half years ago, they loved it! I''m not sure which resort it was though, but I''ll try to remember and ask her when I see her next. :) I''ve actually had a handful of friends honeymoon there lately as well, can''t be too bad eh? They all had good reviews, but again, not sure where exactly they stayed.

Its a very nice place. the water is not really rough.. its more like a couple of fun waves but not enough to knock you over or anything... but it also depends on the season. when are you going?

DH and I went to Punta Cana for our 1 year anniversary and we enjoyed it! We stayed at the Grand Palladium. The water is NOT rough, (vs. Puerta Plata which tends to be a bit more "rough" when comparing the two popular Dominican Republic resort towns, and we have been to both).

The beaches are white sand and are beautiful and clean, no shell pieces anywhere. I think you will enjoy it! Have a fabulous time!

. Thanks for all the advice! We''d be going in mid July. I''m also wondering, has anyone who has been to the Domincan Republic done excursions off the resort? We''re looking for ideas on like hiking and tours, but I''m also starting to hear that the Domincan Republic may not be the safest place to go exploring away from the resorts. Is this true??? Or is it just no more safe than most of the other islands in the Caribbean?
