Just looking for some insight and advice between two spinels I’ve been watching for quite awhile now. They cost significantly more than I’ve ever paid for a gemstone and so I have no idea if they are reasonably priced or not. I have just asked for additional photos & im sure some of you will recognize the website I’ve found these on. I haven’t purchased from them before. Step cuts are my favorite and I’d love a super vivid hot pink. I like the emerald cut gem a little bit more due to the shape and color and it appears a bit brighter. I’d love to hear peoples’ thoughts about the quality of these two & if they are worth considering or passing on. I will post the additional pictures once I receive them. Thanks in advance!

I also prefer the emerald cut. Sorry, I can't be helpful with price but think they are gorgeous!

I prefer the baguette since the emerald cut looks a little lop-sided...is it me or is the top line of the table not parallel to the top line of the girdle? I also see a little scratch/inclusion in quadrant II.

I can't help with the price, as this is the first time I'm looking at hot pink spinel, but I don't like how under enhancement it says "none heated"; that's SO ambiguous! Setting aside my own pet peeves, though, the color of both these spinels looks beautiful.

Yes I too had noticed that the table facets on the emerald cut do not align as best they could have. The right top and bottom table facets, while still not perfect, come to points where the left top and bottom do not. I am not sure how noticeable that would be in person.. Also, I had thought or hoped that maybe the color would be so amazing that it would hide those flaws. Thank you for the input Voce!

Prices for Mehenge spinels are through the roof. Gone are the days you could find one for under 1k (if you do its likely going to be really really small) My view is try to see them both if you can. because sometimes what you see online isn't exactly what you see in person. Neither are totally straight cuts so you'll have to decide what bothers you less. If you're really nitpicky, don't chose the emerald.

Both have excellent color. I prefer the baguette as it seems more "hot pink", without the red modifier. Spinels are tricky and it's best if you see them in person. The small color shift may make all the difference when you see them in hand. Streeetch that credit card and order both! (I've returned many a red spinel) Also, don't forget that the vendor has giant white lights shining on them when he takes the photo. What you see at home will be different. As for pricing, mahenge spinels are crazy expensive and good ones are hard to find, but I think this is the middle range for a good one over 1 carat.

Here are the additional photos of the emerald cut & a video. Honestly I’m feeling kind of meh. For the price, since it’s so much more than I’ve spent I think I need it to be closer to perfect.

Personally I like the emerald cut better albeit it not being perfect. In all honesty, I don't think the vendor hand shot is doing it justice. If you're curious - and think you might regret not even seeing it - I'd order it.

I prefer the EC as well but who knows what they’re like until you have them side by side.

I prefer GranGem's EC spinel.

If you feel Meh, that's definitely a nono! Life is too short to feel Meh about your gems!

The one @elle_71125 posted is gorgeous!

Are you locked into the shape? Yvonne has a few mahenges here...

And grangem on Etsy has a few nice looking ones too. He even has a emerald cut.

Edited to add a pic of that emerald one.

I hear you. It’s been on my favorite list for a while. I like that it’s more pink and less red than the usual mahenge. :D

I can’t wait to see what you decide. :Up_to_something2:

Sooo perfect? Is there a lab report? I'd be scared of synthetic.

Gran gem and pearlmans are both very reputable, so I wouldn't worry about synthetic. Obviously that doesn't mean 'dont get a report', but neither of those vendors would knowingly sell synthetic stones without disclosing them as such.

How goes you and the yellow diamond?

As a fan of yellow diamonds I definitely recommend one! The sparkle is sublime and it's the only shade of coloured diamond where I feel like you can actually get a decent colour and it's still reasonably affordable.

I mean I wouldn't say no to a true pink, pink diamond but I don't have $100,000 lying around!

I’m definitely leaning towards the diamond. I’ve found two I’m going back and forth with! I’m not feeling the love for any of these spinels right now so that gem will go back on the wish list!

I love yellow diamonds! Definitely go with what's speaking to you, especially since the hot pink are so expensive! I'm waiting for my N color CBI to come (thread on RT) and I can't wait. I'm a huge fan of "unusual" and colored diamonds :)

What the heck does CBI mean? I haven’t been able to figure that one out yet! I’ve stayed away from diamonds because the ones I want a generally out of my budget for now. But that DBL emerald is calling me....... :kiss2::Up_to_something2:

Crafted by infinity :)

It really comes down to if you love pink or yellow. Or if you’ll ultimately need both.

They are different beasts but both beautiful in their own right.

Haha I love both and will eventually have both in my collection. I’m pretty sure I found my yellow, not sold on the pinks yet.
