When I was home with our children, he made the household income. When I went back to work part-time he was making 3 times as much as me (he has a degree, I don''t). Now after 8 years back, he makes about 2.5 times what I do. I''m a Federal employee on the GS scale and he''s a Gov''t contractor. My annual raises are higher percentages than his and I just got promoted. His bonuses are more, and more often (I get at most 1 per year, he gets several). The key is our household income is ours, not his and mine, but ours. Spending decisions are not made based on or by who makes more. So, while we are the breadwinners, our college aged boys are the bread eaters.
