Minous, chrono, TL, disdain, colorluv, harriet, etc...etc...and of course my dear LD and all the other PS ladies and gents in the CS section
I wanted to introduce the newest gemstone pupil who also happens to be my girlfriend. I know LD, this is shocking news for you but until I make it across the pond to sweep you off your feet and knock your hubby off into the Thames.....
I want her to try and get on PS everyday to learn and absorb the info provided here as a consumer forum.

PS doesn't get the credit it deserves from other forums, individuals, or other gem related outlets, that are more science based or technical. I believe some of the ladies on here can appraise a stone by picture and some simple info/facts about said stone, and do just as good a job as most real world appraisers. the amount of pics and stones that have been seen and looked at on here makes many very keen as to what to look for and what to make note of...i mean just from picture alone you ladies on Pricescope can determine quite a bit about a stone...it's amazing sometimes. ...well anyways...her name is LovelyblueKrystal. If you could take her under your wing and show her the ropes as best you can I would greatly appreciate it.

We went into Shane Company the other day and she easily spotted a window on a sapphire. It looked horrendous to me and would have to you guys as well and she saw why a window is bad and what it does to a stone. She remarked like you would expect....without me telling her and showing her what a window does to brillance and color she never would have know that was bad. She was amused when I asked the sales guy if they have lab reports with ntheir stones if you buy one...well...they have "certificates" ...LOL..so I asked what good is the certificate. He said it comes from an appraiser. So what was the next question...yep...he is a appraiser who works for Shane Company..an in-house one....LOLOL.....so the guy who tells you what the atone is worth is working for the same company that sold you the stone...LOL
She realized why that was not the best policy..LOL The guy that sells you the stone tells you what it's worth..LOL
Anyways I just got her a ring.... It's silver with melee diamonds.
I know...I know.... it's not like the good ole days for me when you used to flip stones and I could slap paraibas and red beryls and tanzanites on a girls finger(if I had one back then) this will have to do for now until I get things rolling again

Hi Barrett,
So where is the lovely LBK? Welcome and can't wait to meet her. :wavey:

Hey everyone!!! I have always loved gem stones but since I met Jason I didn't know much about them. He has taught me so much. I didn't know there was so much to learn! It's absolutely amazing how jewelers try to get over on people and rip them off. I have been reading the articles that you guys have posted and I must say its very very educational! I look forward to getting to know each of you and learning a lot from ya'll! Thank you in advance for any information you provide me with! :wavey: He got me this beautiful ring! What do ya'll think?

He also got me this gorgeous amethyst! I am absolutely in love with it. He said its a 4 carat concave cut Amethyst from Brandberg Namibia! I can't wait to have it set any ideas?

In terms of sourcing for stones from a consumers perspective, I think PS is a fantastic resource as a newbie myself :) So welcome!

BTW, that's a gorgeous amethyst *_* Set as a pendant? <3

Welcome, LBK! Any friend of Barrett's is a buddy of ours. :wavey: It's fun around here & there's no end to what we can learn -- nor to the generosity of people who can teach.

Pretty ring -- I like that it's unique. Really nice amethyst too -- I vote for yellow or rose gold for a setting. You could do a pendant & it also would make a great ring. What sort of styles do you like -- modern, classical, deco.....?

Hope to see you around more!

--- Laurie

Hi Barrett! :wavey: :wavey:

Welcome Lovelybluekrystal! Congratulations on your ring and your beautiful amethyst! :appl: :appl:

Hello LBK and welcome :wavey:

I need to formally state that I am indeed the "other woman" in Barrett's life but since I am happily married you are in no danger from me!!!!! Barrett on the other hand is in big trouble! :nono: I dunno, he declares undying like and then forsakes me! :angryfire:

Anyway, it sounds like you're learning VERY quickly! Barrett is a great teacher and with him at your side, you'll learn TONS in a very quick space of time.

Your ammy is lovely. I have an absolute block when it comes to setting trillions but there was one set just recently on the forum that's outstanding. If I can find it, I'll link you to it. Yours is bigger though and will make a very substantial ring so if you want something more practical, how about a pendant? The world's your lobster if you go for a pendant because you can add lots of metal or shapes or or or or or (you get the picture)!

So, welcome on board and don't be a stranger!

I am just flabbergasted and gobsmacked! How will we possibly continue the novella series if Barrett is no longer available to play lead?!! Hmm, we may have to write the new beguiling LBK in to win Barrett's heart...yes, I see it now. I'll go talk to my author Enerchi and get back to you.

Lovely Blue, welcome! You have certainly gotten yourself in deep with that one! Are you ready to traipse around digging up crystals for days at a time? In all seriousness, it is wonderful to meet someone important to Jason, and it is always awesome to gain another PSer. The only thing I think is important to know, is that we are all still learning together here. Every day that I come to PS, there is something new about stones, cutting, jewelry, photography, or people that I learn. Jason has taught us a lot [oops, is he reading this? Don't want it to go to his head...]

Your ring is lovely and looks like it has great intricate detailing. As one would expect, the ammie is super - I love the photo of the two together, which may inspire you when setting the trillion. I have very little experience setting stones, and zero experience with bespoke jewelry, but if I can brag on PS for a minute, I will say that this is an amazing resource and the collective design abilities of this crowd is awesome. The ideas that people come up with are just awesome. So you might want to do a search here for trillion designs. In the meantime, I'll get a few of my favorite trillion designs and post them, if they haven't already been by someone else.

Again, welcome! :appl: :appl:

Take a look at these:

Chrono's Chryso ring and Distract's Mint Garnet in rose gold. There are others, including some men's rings, I believe.

Welcome! It is great to have you join us. First of all, beautiful amethyst! But that is not surprising coming from the "AmethystGuy".

A larger trillion is usually set in a pendant. Despite the amazing examples shown here (I love Chrono's ring, specially), a trillion is kinda hard to set in a ring. What is your style like? For a bold look, I would hang it from a lovely green stone (tourmaline or a tsav, depending on budget). More traditionally, a diamond halo would make it pop. But my favourite look is probably a rose gold setting along these lines: http://rwwise.com/products/id%7C1714 or a simpler version of this (I would trim the back so that both sides end flush and remove the diamonds), for a longer pendant: http://rwwise.com/products/id%7C886

By the way, Barret, why not JXC amethyst? I know you have a good source for that and that you love the material.

Good question! Maybe he feels he's not ready for that commitment yet

welcome LBK! Hope you enjoy all the lovely things here on PS and the wealth of knowledge!!

Hmm... Minous... we'll have to work this into the story line... or maybe there's a NEW story, yet to be told!!! hmmm... the mind wanders....

(I forget the thread that was in- can you find it? Maybe LBK would get a laugh out of it!!)

Welcome LBK!

What a stunning amethyst and cute ring!

That story is going to become two soon!

Hi LBK! Welcome!

I love the ring - it's way cool!

That amethyst is beautiful. Are thinking of a plain metal setting, or one with diamonds?

Sheesh, Enerchi, right away? Don't we want to break the poor woman in gently? We don't want her running for the hills when she finds out what she's in for, do we? :o

Ok, I'll let you decide when she's ready!!!

LBK I just thought of a story for you about your beloved. Every time I think of this, I start laughing.

A while ago, there was a big dustup here, which happens every so often. I can't quite recall which one, but I *believe* it was between a former poster who went on to become a vendor and a well respected individual member of the forum. It got really tense. Tempers were flaring. Pages were racking up with outraged members as the incident unfolded. The debate raged on as to who was at fault.

In to the middle of this tense, emotional showdown of sorts, Barrett starts posting pictures of kittens, each one cuter than the last. Big-eyed innocent kittens. Fluffy, adorable kittens. People were temporarily amused, posted the equivalent of "oh thats nice" but immediately fell back into the fray. When that failed to do the trick, Jason started posting pictures of - what was it - cats with hats?!! I laughed so hard I could not stop. I p--d my pants laughing. If I recall, about that time another member also started introducing a little levity, and then the mods maturely stepped in with a "Now boys" comment to certain members (we won't name names) who had been trying to calm everything down by distracting people with little fuzzy animals. It still makes me laugh out loud every time I think of it.

So that's your guy. Enjoy him!

Maybe it's me but the knotting in the ring that he gave you can be interpreted as your lives entwining without a start or an end. It's really sweet. Hmmm.....why not a JXR amethyst? :nono:

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I have already learned so much from ya'll. The amethyst I was thinking about having a pendant made but I think I would rather wear it as a ring. Thank you the ideas on the settings. I love those pictures. I love the rose gold! LD I have heard so much about you already. I couldn't ask for a more amazing man/teacher. Every few minutes I learn something new from him. I already loved jewelry but now I'm fascinated!!!! I am thinking about having the amethyst in a plain metal setting. I think adding diamonds would just over do it....oh and Minous I am already going digging with him. I enjoy the treasure hunt and its something we both enjoy doing together. It would take a lot to get me to tuck my tail and run. lol When i read that story about the cats in the hat I laughed so hard because that is so him!! I enjoy every moment I am with him. Chrono I had just told him the night before that I loved the ring because it looks like an infinity sign. Tomorrow I am going to look around and see if I find a setting to put the amethyst in an see what ya'll think. I had forgotten that I also have a garnet I need to have set...I'll post the picture later. Thank you again for making me feel so welcome! =)
