How bad has the flu hit your area?

Its not as bad here as some places but a lot of people have it.
They havent closed the schools yet but Christmas break just started and they are talking about extending it.
I heard Church today was a ghost town because of everyone having the flu.

One of our suppliers in st. Louis MO. had 16 out of 25 people out with the flu friday.

Wow! I guess it hasn't hit us that bad here....a few people sick at work but that's it. Luckily (knock on wood) no one I know has it...and both of us are okay.




Though I know our web production team in Oklahoma was hit very hard, alot of programmers and designers were out this last week.




I hope that because of the holiday meaning people will be staying home more this week and next....that it will stop it in it's tracks or at least keep it from spreading as rampantly.

I was out sick for 4-5 days a couple weeks ago...I woke up in the middle of the night with the fever and it was all downhill from there..Glad I am over it and many people in our area have had it longer

Hopefully this strain will not have the same impact next year...

I get the flu shot every year to be safe. I've had the flu in the past, and it's not fun. Plus, being a mom, I have no time for the flu. My kids got it a couple weeks ago and missed a week of school. I hope that's the end of it for this season.

My daughter got the flu about two weeks ago. She had high fevers(105-106F) for about 5 days straight, a really bad cough, sore throat, running nose, etc. She refused to eat anything and was lethargic at times and only wanted to drink water or juice. Sometimes she coughed so much she vomited all her stomach contents up!!!
The doctor started antibiotics three days into the flu. On the 6th day, we took her to the hospital to get a chest x-ray. The doctor thought she might have developed pneumonia, but her lungs were clear. He wound up switching her to a stronger antibiotic.
She started doing better about two days later. She is still on the antibiotics and still has a cough, but I am so lucky she is okay otherwise!!!

The flu? I told myself that I would not get the flu this year under any conditions...I didn't even get the flu shot (didn't want to jinx myself). Well...needless to say...I am an elementary school teacher, so after everyone was finished coughing all over me--I got it! (Just in time for Christmas Vacation). I haven't left my house in 2 days! I have a temperature of 103, I'm "barking" like a dog with my cough, etc......I wouldn't wish this on anyone. STAY HEALTHY!!

Sadly from the thread following this one (Yogimel) it's very bad here. Since I'm terribly asthmatic I've been getting the shot for years. I only hope this one protects me this year...and further I hope all those in the area who are susceptible/or children were wise enough to get it.

I got the shot a month or so ago.
It didnt prevent it but it didnt get as bad as some so maybe it helped.
I have asthma too and the affect it has had on my asthma has been worse than the flu symtoms.
Went on stronger advair - 500/50 from my usual fall/spring 250/50 and summer/winter 100/50 .
Nebulizer 3x per day and keep my inhaler handy.
It helped.
