I'm looking for an asscher cut, that reads "cut cornered square step cut" on the GIA cert. I've noticed that many companies call their diamonds asschers, but on the GIA cert they often read "square emerald cut". I have discovered that true asscher [or like asscher] diamonds are known as "cut cornered square step cut" on the cert

However, I've only come across a few of these. Are they really hard to find? Are there any retailers that specialize in these or is it just a matter of going through all "asscher" cut GIA certs to find what I'm looking for?

It is not that hard or that easy.
I imagine GIA have a rule as to what size corners make that difference. But as to the number of steps of the facets - that is pretty much the same for all, except the Royal Asscher (tm) which is patented and has additional facets (which is useful over 3cts).

Try using the search tool here - in house will bring up lots but only a few will have photo's. That will hlelp you though.
You can also enter the info and your comments into the "Get a quote from trusted vendors" which will go out to several vendors who sponsor Pricescope via ad's and stone listings.
Asking for ASET and normal photo's and posting them here will get you lots of help. There is also an appraiser section under Resources - top tool bar.
