How could Louis CK be back with 71% of his 2019 shows sold out?

Subsequently a film he made was pulled from distribution and his comedy tours were cancelled.

Is he only playing in America's more pro-Trump cities??? Hmmmm.

And what does his apparently successful return to his comedy career mean for #metoo?
People really don't care what happens to women?
What de did wasn't as bad as Harvey Weinstein and many others?
His great talent trumps his offense?

As a comedian I loved him, but he blew it.
It will be interesting to see if there can be life for a man after running afoul of #metoo.

Even reputable media is reporting on the controversy.

The presence of a thread on a topic does not indicate a forum's support for any aspect of the topic.
Personally I wouldn't mind if all threads mentioning Trump were deleted, but I'd never ask for that or threaten to leave - and take others with me - if admin didn't delete all reference to Trump.

With my OP I intentionally attempted to not take a side on the controversy, in order to facilitate free discussion.
I'd like members to feel free to post their thoughts about this topic, instead of feeling threatened into silence.

This is a legit topic of discussion, and I want to ear from this intelligent and insightful group.
And isn't sunlight, aka the best disinfectant, better than censorship, book burning, or thread-deleting?

I agree Kenny. If someone doesn't like a thread just skip it. Exposing the ugly truth to the light is the only way to deal with this vile (IMO) situation.


And as for Trump yeah I would love to see him deleted from this forum. Talk about ugly truths. That is why I tend to skip the political threads. They upset me but the truth often does that. Sometimes I cannot deal with it and I skip it but it doesn't mean it doesn't exist and isn't reality. Burying one's head in the sand works only for a short while but we do what we have to in order to preserve our sanity and I respect that completely. But I don't think deletion/censoring etc is helpful in the long run for anyone. JMO.

If one doesn't like a thread (as long as that thread follows PS rules) one can just skip it. That's the bottom line.

It is only by keeping a light shone on the problem - by continuing to talk about it, by reminding people of the crimes of men like CK - that we stand a chance of not ‘letting it slide’. So much horribleness has lived under the rug for all of mankind. As demoralizing as it was to lift the rug and see just how much was living under there, we have to fight the fight not to let men get away with putting the rug back over it all.

The election of Trump, the #metoo movement, the exposure of so many celebrities and men in power who are sexual assaulters turned my world upside down. I was fortunate to have respectful, kind, healthy men as relatives, role models, and significant others throughout my life. I knew women suffered at the hands of men, I did not understand the reality of how far-reaching and pervasive the problem truly is.

DH & I have one male family member who has made ‘girlfriend’ comments and inappropriate suggestions (dating a teacher) to my daughters since they were little. He does not respond maturely to us telling him that makes us (and now that they are older, our children) uncomfortable. He is a bully. He says he can say what he wants. His wife says he is just teasing. HIs daughter nervously redirects to protect him. Easy choice, we distance ourselves and limit our children’s exposure to him. We talk to them about how such comments make them feel, and how they do not have to accept that. We respect their feelings and act on their behalf. I thought many others do the same; I did not realize just how many others are raised learning to tolerate and placate such behavior.

I am glad you started this thread Kenny. Despite my rude awakening, I am still surprised by his comeback. It makes me sad, frustrated, and disheartened. I hope that by continuing to talk about it, to expose this behavior and criminal activity for what it is, to disparage and shame the men who sexually assault others we will start to do away with letting it live under the rug. I have to hold on to the hope that someday men like Trump won't be elected and entertainers like CK will face greater consequences than two years off from their flourishing career.

I saw him live the year before all the news came out and it was hard to square his humor with his behavior other than to realize fame/money/power enable people to think their bad behavior is ok. from what i've read the new show is not a monologue of contrition, more like "get over it already" just gross.

I am a man, but I'm on the right side of this.

FWIW (which is perhaps nothing) when stationed overseas almost 40 years ago I was raped and robbed by a male service member.
I did not report it.
I'm not a woman so it's not exactly the same, but there are similarities.
Many F-ed up men think they can target, take, and use a person/body that gives them pleasure without regard to the harm done to that person.
That is always 100% wrong.

I get it.
I truly get #metoo.

Finally this crap is getting attention it deserves.
I'm optimistic that in the long term more men will behave more respectfully because of #metoo.
