Hi ladies!
We''re just starting the wedding planning and are starting to try to think about themes and colour schemes. Our wedding will be in late September, and we''re currently leaning towards a dark purple (eggplant) and cream with metallic accents (don''t know if we want to do gold or pewter yet). But there are so many awesome colour combos out there, and we''re finding that it''s difficult to find really dark bm dresses that I like (which is making me sway towards maybe another colour scheme).

So how did you choose your colour scheme (inspiration boards are always great to see) and in what time of year is/was your wedding?

Blue is both of our favorite colors, and my dress is silver/gray. Black and white just seemed to go. Plus, I didn''t have to really worry about flowers or anything, since we''re not doing the reception thing.

My wedding will be in Vegas oct 2010.

We picked black and red (ahem, card colors) and ivory. The only thing we could agree on. He wanted dark navy and dark this.. and dark that. I wanted pool blue, or purples.. so... black and red it is!

For some odd reason, I delegated this task to fi...

who decided the colors should coincide with his birthstone
20.gif
which is turquoise

He stated (matter of factly) that the colors should be in the same color family as turquoise so anywhere from blue to green...We ended up with a very dark forest green as it will be autumn/winter at the wedding...
and that''s how we decided lol

Eggplant(deep purple)/white/metallics will be my color scheme for my November wedding next year. Dessy Group and Jim Hjelm have some great eggplant color choices.

I always wanted autumn because I love autumn colors... so, it was pretty straightforward from the beginning

We had one main color that was very important, and it was a matter of finding complimentary colors to go with the main color and the venue itself.

We basically looked at photos of other weddings in magazines and online to get color scheme ideas and found that we kept gravitating towards one set of colors (sky blue, yellows, apple green and lavender) so we went with that for our May wedding. So, I''d just look around for ideas until something jumps out at you.

i knew my moh and bms would want to wear something neutral and not a color color. so i thought grey would be pretty. and then i just thought about colors i liked with a pewtery grey and came up with white and a reddish purple.

I wanted something bright, so I started looking at pictures and seeing what colors jumped out at me. I found myself gravitating towards melon/orange, so I took that and went from there.

For me it just sort of came together. First it was process of elimation. I didn''t want any orange or yellow, FI didn''t want black or red, and my MOH vetoed all pastels

. Sapphire blue became an obvious choice since my ering center stone is a sapphire. Luckily my bridesmaids were very happy to wear that color. Our wedding location of the Florida Keys/Islamorada greatly influenced the other colors - bright and tropical. I knew I wanted to carry green cymbidium orchids, so that became another color and Islamorada means "purple island" so something purple(ish) seemed another appropriate choice. The season of our wedding (late fall) didn''t influence our color choices at all because of the location. Here it all is together (our invites, the flowers we''re using, and one of the bridesmaid dresses):

I really liked shades of green and I have a very sunny personality. So, I figured since our wedding is in mid September the green should be more fall like, same for the yellow. I thought of Kiwi which is an olive green and sunset yellow orange should do the trick and tadah!! We got our colors!

I found that one bridesmaid dress company would have my selected colors but not a style or dress appropriate for my girls. Another would have the style I liked but not any colors I liked. So to answer your question, I knew from the get go that something from the raspberry family had to be included in some way. We ended up choosing our colors, based on what was available in the dresses and after talking to our florist about some ideas she had. I had that meeting before we shopped for bm dresses and she had already put in my head how nice green hydrangeas would be an accent. So when we finally picked a BM dress that complimented mine, we checked out the colors and chose based on what was available and what went well together. We ended up with ivory (for me), cassis (like rasperry/purple) and leaf (like emerald green). I knew I wanted my MOH to wear a different color so she'll wear cassis, and BMS will wear leaf and we'll tie it all together with personal flowers and reception decorations: to include ivory roses and calla lilies, lavender and raspberry roses, and green hydrangeas accents. Here's a pic of a cake that will us as inspiration and it shows the colors together. EDIT: Our wedding is next June.

I knew I wanted green in the mix because I love green cymbidium orchids and green hydrangeas. Initially, I thought I''d do green and pink, but when I started to think about how to implement that combination, I didn''t like it as much as I thought I would. I wanted the bridesmaids to wear a darker color, and when I put the green I loved together with dark purple, I knew that was the right combination for us. My DH''s college has dark purple as its main color, so he liked the idea, too. My bridesmaids wore aubergine-colored charmeuse and chiffon dresses by Watters, and they looked amazing.

Easy. Yellow is my favourite colour, so that is my colour scheme.

Try not to overthink your decisions. You''ll make it SO much harder for yourself.

ours was kinda chosen by process of elimination.. and work influence lol

We didn''t want the colors from the weddings of our parents failed marraiges (both sets of parents have been divorced and remarried, and a couple have been divorced more than once and remarried lol. So out went purple, cream, salmon, or emerald green..

All of the weddings we have been to lately have had a red or pink color scheme so we nixed that.

Fi''s mom told me that "anything other than a pastle or Jewel tone is Just Wrong and Ugly for a wedding"
32.gif
... so of course, I no longer wanted to do pastels or jewel tones!

I knew I wanted our colors to "pop" and be cute and summery since the first date we are considering is in the summer.. so most likely our colors will be slate blue and light yellow... Also, i''m an interior designer and have just started picking out color schemes for our apartment and i''ve been really drawn to slate blue.. we just bought a dining table with slate inlay accents

I think these are the bridesmaid dresses we will be going with..
I think they''d be able to fit all of my bm''s varying body types and they are so pretty in person.. they will have a canary yellow peek-a-boo slip underneath with a yellow "sash" on their waist.

Our second choice for a date is in the fall..
in that case, I would probably go with a copper color, burnt orange or chocolate brown.

but most likely we''ll have a summer wedding. We''ve considered so many different options, this has really been my least favorite planning part so far lol.

We''re doing pool blue and green apple green, with some lime green thrown in because green apple green is kind of hard to find, lol! I wanted a bright and cheery summery feel, so I needed another bright color to go with it.

Pool blue is my favorite color, so that was the obvious choice. I was having a really hard time coming up with the second color, so I actually posted on here for inspiration, and quite a few people suggested green.

Look through magazines and cut out EVERY picture that strikes your fancy, even if it doesn''t technically have to do with a color palate. Then look back through the pages. You''ll most likely see a trend.

Or you could always just pick your favorite color.

First step - what colors look good against your skin? I know this was a huge concern of mine since the pictures from the wedding were very important to me. So I made sure to surround myself with flattering colors :)

I based most of my color scheme around our venue. Once I found the venue I took cues from its architecture, colors, and the time period it was built in (art nouveau). It was really important for me that any decorations feel like they fit with the space. I stuck to peach and ivory flowers with a good amount of muted greens which really complimented the space. Our linens were ivory with copper napkins and high boy accents. Other than that there really wasn''t much color, the space itself was really colorful and beautiful so I didn''t try to compete with it.

Bridal party outfits gave us another "color" to work with which was black. I really preferred the look of all the bridesmaids wearing different dresses, but I did want them to be the same color. Since I wanted them to be able to find it on their own from any store, I told them to all get black - and it worked beautifully! We then had all the groomsmen simply wear a nice black suit they owned and then gifted them with matching shirts (white) and ties (black bow tie).

Is there an element you are excited about or is important to you? For instance if the bridesmaid dress is important to you find the one you like before choosing colors so you can work your scheme around what they offer.

Or if your favorite flower is a beautiful shade of pink think about that before you decide on an all blue theme.

Or if you are feeling tight on money look at what the venue has for tablecloths/chairs that are included and don''t require an upgrade - could you work those colors into your scheme for the extra savings?

Just figure out what is important and work from there!

You know, I''m not sure how I really picked it! It just came to me.

We''re also doing a September wedding and I knew I didn''t want a red/orange/yellow/brown type of ''fall'' scheme. So I was left trying to think of something that was a little different, but still seasonally appropriate (I love turquoise, for example, but unless combined with brown I did not feel it would work). I also considered the colouring of my 3 bridesmaids and what they would look good in and looked at a couple different inspiration boards online.

With that said, all that deliberation has yielded thus far is the decision to use some kind of plum shade as my primary colour. Or possible grape, or possibly merlot. I have a vague idea but have not picked the specific shade yet. I also don''t know whether we''re going to do more of a plum/cream/gold scheme or plum/pewter. It''s hard for me to decide because it''s still so far away and seems abstract to me at this point.

after a great long trial of consulting 10 ouiji boards (or however that''s spelled) and a variety of magic 8 balls (darn ask again later answer)...

my favorite color and his favorite color

and i''ll make emraldy-teal and yellow work

my FI was under the impression that it''s a general girl thing to have your wedding planned out forever and ever since you''re little, and i had to go and burst his bubble on that one. i suppose my ''accent'' color is silver, although i don''t feel the need for one, but that''s what color sandals the gals will be wearing

I took my matron of honor shopping for a dress and said "pick the color you like." I''m doing different shades of browns called truffle, latte, and champagne with gold accents and I think it looks great.

I just couldn''t see DH (then FI) amidst purple and pink decorations. so I decided it shouldn''t look feminine at all and instead to go with white and blue (more towards darker blue).

We drew inspiration from our venue. Our wedding was outside, overlooking the water. I didn''t want to compete with the natural beauty, so I chose aqua blue, apple green, ivory and chocolate brown - all colors that blended in/complemented the natural surroundings. Our wedding was in the summer btw.

My wedding was in late September, so maybe I can help! I looove the dark eggplant idea! I was actually thinking of a wine color or burgundy, because it's beautiful for fall. But I also had a hard time finding dresses I wanted in that color. So from there I thought of navy/darkish blue, because it's also a darker fall type color, but much easier to find. (eta: navy also seemed rewearable in the right dress while less neutral colors seemed less rewearable)

From there I thought about flowers and I really love bright orange flowers. Orange and blue go together (Syracuse colors! DH was excited about that
20.gif
) so I had my color scheme. Though honestly, we didn't use the colors much. We had some orange in the invites and in all the flowers of course, but the blue was really only in the dresses.

Last year when we got engaged, I was really into the black, white and red thing that was really popular. It kinda morphed into a warmer palette though as we decided to go a more vintage route (okay, I decided...
9.gif
) so we ended up with espresso brown, dark red and gold for our November wedding.

I love the palette you''re thinking of, eggplant with warm metallics sounds so royal.
