How do I get my pendant to shine?

I got a .28 round diamond bezel necklace for my bday from my mother. It’s my first diamond necklace and im grateful for the gift but the diamond doesn’t seem to sparkle? I don’t feel like returning to James Allen since it’s such a thoughtful gift, especially since I’m getting this after a couple of surgeries last year and I know she wanted me to have a nice piece after the year I’ve had, but I was thinking maybe I should return and put it in another setting to see if it will sparkle and that way it’s still the same diamond my mom picked out?

could anyone provide advice? I’d so appreciate it! It’s a 14k gold bezel necklace, .28, D diamond. Clarity says flawless.

Soak it in a warm/hot water bath with Dawn detergent for 15 min. Use a toothbrush and give it a nice clean. Then blow dry using a blow dryer on cool mode.

Could you post a pic or two so we can see what you are seeing?

Does it have a GIA report? Can you post it if so?

Agree with others, the first thing to do is give it a good cleaning!

Thank you, I just got it this week, didn’t think I’d have to clean it, but I’ll follow the suggestions above, will make a trip to Target to get some Dove detergent and a brush to keep for just cleaning jewelry.

I’ve attached a picture of the pendant by itself and one with these Bloomingdales .6 HI/I1I2 earrings I got on Christmas sale. Sorry if the lighting isn’t great, taken under a lamp.
These earrings sparkle a lot, in all sorts of lighting conditions. I guess maybe I was expecting the pendant to do the same? But these earrings are white gold and maybe the setting helps.

i just use a soft tooth brush and regular dishwashing liquid - the kind with no mositurizer, usually just what i have under the kitchen bench
i cant be bothered tracking down dawn, ive never ever seen it for sale here and im not going to order it in especially
works fine for me

It's a pretty pendant! I agree with others that cleaning the pavilion is often more important than the crown.

In the store, you probably saw it horizontal on a pad and it had spots shining right down on it. On the neck, overhead light is not hitting the table; such is the case with pendants as you know. Can always shine your highbeams on it =)2.

Someone will tell you that the light perfomance of an ideal diamond won't be affected by the setting...
In my experience, prong settings are better than bezel settings because they let the light enter from every angle: I had a 0.3 ct F vvs diamond necklace in a white 18 kt gold bezel; I was never satisfied with it until I put it a six prong mounting...the diamond was brought to life.
Same experience with my old 0.1 ct each studs.
