How do rose cut diamonds perform?

So I came across this ring. I really liked the rose cut when it was on display but then I noticed that it changed at certain angles while on my finger. Is this what happens with rose cut diamonds?

yes that is normal

Can the setting me modified so that it only reflects the first image at all times? Like adding some kind of cup?

They are often foiled but it only helps from some directions.
They really are best thought of as more of a statue like object than a light show like a mrb.

Echoing to say that foiling really helps with the light return, but it won’t make it look as bright and brilliant as a brilliant cut. You’ll also have to be really careful while cleaning foiled rose cuts, if water gets into the setting it can be bad for the foil. Bezelling the diamond can also help.

Most rose cuts will have that look form most viewing angles. They are delicate looking more than sparkly. Here is my 0.25 ct oval.

Here is my 0.43 that has all the facets pushed to one side and is like a portrait cut.

I think you have to appreciate that rose cuts are different to mrb. They won't be as brilliant and get dirty easily. But when they are clean and at their best, they kind of shimmer in the light.

If you get a high dome rose cut, it is less likely to go clear/flat in the centre from what I’ve observed with my moissanite rose cuts. But also, it’s a cut that doesn’t have a lot of faceting and no pavilion. There’s not a lot to do sparkly light play with so you’ll get that look at least some of the time.
I like how rose cuts handle light. It’s shimmery rather than sparkly/glittery so is a different look.

Rose cuts are dramatically different than other diamond cuts IMO. They aren't as lively as their counterparts. They have fewer facets and a shallower cut so have more of a subtle shine and sparkle a lot less.

They are sweet and subtle vs dramatic and sparkly and they have an appeal but IMO they are the anti diamond lol. Not a bad thing. Just different.

One thing I will add is if I was going to buy a rose cut I would make sure it was crystal clear and not included as that will take away from their transparent beauty and shimmer.

Not uncommon for them to do that. They are quiet. With you having a mrb as your primary ring, they are a huge change. They glisten or have soft delicate flashes. Rings also get so dirty do easily. When that happens, they don't do much at all. I say that as someone that owns multiple rose cuts and likes them. It's just how they are.

They are subtle and they do sparkle but not the way a MRB will. I guess I have a love-hate relationship with them. I buy them and then decide I don’t like them after a while.
I realize now I only like smaller ones that are also high domed, bc I do not like the way my skin shows through them. Also they look dirty faster bc they are flat in the bottom.
Currently I have a pear rose cut bangle, a Tiffany enchant butterfly necklace, a cluster rose cut ring but with an OEC center, a moissy solitaire and moissy bezel set earrings. They are all smaller size stones so my skin doesn’t show through them so I love them.
Here is my cluster ring. It’s currently with David Klass bc a diamond in the side gallery popped out in my ultrasonic.

Agree, rose cuts have their own magic. If you keep comparing them to MRBs, you’ll never feel the rose offers enough. I really like how understated they are. When I wear mine, I feel very classy :)
