while on vacation when you can''t bring your US with you?

I''m asking because, like most of the people on this forum, I''m OCD about keeping my jewelry clean and toss them in the US every morning. How do you manage to keep your jewelry clean while on vacation? My RHR is going to drive me mad if I can''t keep it clean enough for it to sparkle brilliantly, and being that it''s an asscher, it will definitely need a daily cleaning.

Please share your ideas. How''s dishwashing soap with a soft cloth to rub it? And dried with a paper towel? Or should I use shampoo instead? Thanks in advance.

HI:

I may be the exception, but I take my jewellery to the beach and everywhere on vacation....hence I bring a soft toothbrush with me and when I shower I use the bar soap + toothbrush to wash my rings and diamond Ebel watch. Things always look pretty good after that.......

cheers--Sharon

It's by Connoisseurs and you can get it at your local drugstore.

I bring a small spray bottle of cleaner and clean my rings with it when I travel. But on my last trip I did bring my SI ultra sonic cleaner with me, but I''m weird. It''s so small I thought why not??

LOL, Kaleigh. I''m only bringing a carry-on, and it''s a five day trip, so like your typical female, I stuffed the thing. There''s no room anymore. But I really did consider bringing it and probably would if space wasn''t a factor.

Canuk-gal, I was debating that, but I did that before, and there were a ton of scratches on my ring afterwards. Perhaps the toothbrush I was using wasn''t soft enough.

Researcher, what a great find! Do you know what aisle it''s usually in? I''ll make my sister drive me to the nearest drug store when I land, just for that! If I can''t find it, then a soft bristle toothbrush would be the next item on my list.

Thanks all!

Me too! It is great they have it at wal-mart and kohls too.

I need to find that!

I bought a spray cleaner with separate brush set from WF. This looks smaller....I need to go to Longs Drugs tomorrow.

The stuff is usually in the makeup section near nail polish remover and such, but sometimes it''s with the travel stuff. It really does a great job! Also, I bring a pack of Windex wipes for that quick cleanup of lotion or whatever and even let one dry a little and use that for drying my ring once I''ve cleaned it with the gel stuff.

Glad I could help!

I''ve never seen that before. I need to get one of those too!

I usually bring some dish detergent in a small container and a small brush (the one that comes in those jewelry cleaners) with me on trips. It seems to do the job. Of course not like the US does! Hopefully you''ll be busy sightseeing rather than looking at how dirty your rings is! Haha.

When I was in Vegas I just brought my container (it came with my steam cleaner) and a soft tooth brush. I then went to Walgreens and bought a .99 bottle of ammonia. I always clean with ammonia and hot water then steam. I didn''t obviously steam my jewelry but I still kept them clean. At the end of my trip I left my ammonia at the hotel...I think I got my .99 cents out of it

I will say that my friend and sister who went with me thought I was crazy! I made them walk the strip far to the Walgreens just so I could have clean rings

They weren''t very happy about that

i'm so obsessed now with cleaning my rings...i typically bring spray cleaner and a small brush but it doesn't work as well as the US...damnit!!! i think if we do a long trip i will definitely pack my US. it's small enough and honestly i just love it. or else my ring will just have to be kinda clean and not all the way there for 5 days...wah!

Me too...a spray cleaner and a small brush.

LOL, Small. That sounds like something I would do too. My friends thing I''m a bit too weird about keeping my ring clean. I carry around a microfiber cloth with me, and I wipe my ring down constantly. Talk about OCD.

Researcher, thanks again! I didn''t know about the Windex wipes. I''ll have to look for those, because that''s what I use in my US: Windex and hot water.

snlee, I wish I was sightseeing. I''ll be spending a lot of time by the pool, tanning, and I want to wear my ring! That way, I can stare at the sparkles instead of reading. I''ll be spending one day at Disneyland, and with the lines, I NEED something pleasant to look at, and sweaty hot people are not pleasant to look at.

Mara, I know exactly what you''re talking about regarding the cleaning obsession. If I come home in the middle of the afternoon, I actually toss my ring in my US for a quick clean before I get out the door again! OCD, I''m telling you. Combined with DSS. Ugh.

By the way, does anyone else here ever wipe off their rings after shaking hands with someone? (Only if others won''t notice, of course.) Or am I the only strange one that does that?

HI:

I try and buy a toothbrush that one would use for a "first/baby" toothbrush--very soft brissels (spelling?), but I forgot on our last holiday and ended up using one supplied by the hotel---probably did scratch my old set......my u/s is just way too big to travel with and I always overpac for vacations as it is...but who knows with my "new" ring what i might do......

cheers--Sharon

researcher: I know this is a stupid question but where do you find it at the drugstore? I went to Walgreens today and couldn''t locate the Connossieurs.

Just in case anyone is looking for this, I found it at Bed Bath and Beyond in the cleaning products section.

I''m glad you posted that luckyhonu! I''ll be making a trip to BB&B very soon!

Sharon you may have to move up to a full sized toothbrush with that big beautiful new baby of yours!!!

I travel with a small bottle of spray jewelry cleaner that I got from my jeweler and I also use a soft baby toothbrush.

Soft toothbrush and Miracle Clean spray jewelry cleaner.

I stumbled upon this by chance and I hope it''s not damaging my ring, but I ran out of my jewelry cleaner and I had a bottle of Scope mouthwash. I use half scope and half water, and man does it work well using a baby toothbrush. After the bath, I use a baby bulb syringe/ear syringe and blow it dry. Makes my gems sparkle like crazy.

Went to BB&B looking for the travel size Connoisseurs but they didn''t have it.

Went to Target, CVS, & Ulta with no luck tonight as well.

Finally ran in to Jewel/Osco to get some milk and walking out I randomly saw it next to the nail polish remover. Who would have thought??? Anyway, I bought 3 and am going to give them to a couple of my girlfriends as well. Will definitely be my new jewelry cleaner when on vacation.

I''ve been keeping my eyes peeled for the Connoisseurs cleaner but haven''t been able to find it locally. Oh well.

I''m leaving for my week-long vacation Saturday and have resigned myself to bringing my US cleaner. If I bring the regular jewelry cleaner (solution with brush) I just KNOW it''ll leak in my luggage, it always does.

I''ve always brought the jar, as I wasn''t aware of this travel size. And yes, inevitably it leaks, but I put it in a zip lock bag, and then in another one. Haven''t had any leak out into the luggage. Might try that, if you really don''t want to mess with your US.

And have fun!

Hey KristyDarling, it took me and my sister 3 passes along an aisle in Rite Aid before we found it. And she spotted it before I did! I went all the way to where the household cleaners were, and had to backtrack to the cosmetics section.

Try asking the employees where the jewelry cleaners are; they''re usually shelved together. And have fun on your vacation!

Ha ha the "other" BB&B!

Yeah, I thought about that when I posted it... I wish I was making a trip to that BB&B!

The Cannossieurs Gel came in handy!! I just came back from Vancouver and loved using it every day.

It was so funny, I went to a BBQ and there was a girl who had a 3 stone with trilliants and RB, it was one of the dirtiest rings I''ve ever seen. I pulled her aside and asked if she ever cleaned her ring and she said no so I dragged her into the bathroom and cleaned her ring with the Cannossieurs (I ended up giving it my friend who was throwing the BBQ). It made a HUGE difference! She squealed so loud that all the ladies at the BBQ asked me to clean their rings and they couldn''t believe how sparkly their rings were.

My friend is coming to the US this week and she''s going to buy an US cleaner as well as 5 bottles of the Cannossieurs for her friends!

Afterwards the girl who had the 3 stone showed it to her fiance and he couldn''t believe it - he was going to COMPLAIN to their jewler that they got ripped off with cloudy diamonds!

LOL, luckyhonu...glad to hear it worked out so well for you! Just wondering, did you get any funny looks when they found out that you carried jewelry cleaner with you? Because I tend to get funny looks, but maybe that''s because you can catch me cleaning my rings several times a day.

LOL lh..that''s hilarious!!!! you are a brave girl to ask a random gal if she ever cleans her ring...hahhaa...i''d be afraid of the ''you have 3 heads'' look she''d give me.

why do people never think they need to clean their precious baubles?!?! i mean do they think that diamonds just somehow magically repel dirt? it''s kind of funny in a way!

They gave me a funny look when they found out I carried jewelry cleaner with me on trips, when I told them I US my rings almost every day they couldn''t belive it! I don''t care if they give me funny looks....who cares when I showed them what clean jewelry REALLY looks like!
