Hi guys,
Ya''ll ( I''m from Texas ;) helped me immensely when I picked out the solitaire for my engagement ring. We finalized everything today and I should get my ring in 4 weeks ( it''s being custom made ). The question I have is in between the visits to the jewelry store to get your rings professionally cleaned, how else do you clean your rings at home? Thanks!

Sharper Image ultrasonic. I pre-clean with a brush to get off any smudges on the table, ultrasonic a couple times a week.

I use a Sharper Image Ultrasonic most of the time. I also have a jewel jet or use windex mixed with water that I heated in microwave. I use a baby toothbrush to clean things when necessary.

I have the Salton Jewelery Spa. It works fantastic. It soaks the ring in hot solution, then has a steamer to finish the job. I love it. The steam feature is what I love best. It just seems to give it that jewelry store cleaned look.

I think it depends on your ring - I used to have an asscher, so I used a Jewel Jet steam cleaner to give it that "fresh from the jewlery store" look. I tried an ultrasonic with it, but I liked the results from the JEwel Jet better.

Now that I have an RB solitaire, I am just using jewlery cealer and a toothbrush and it sparkles like crazy. However, I''m thinking about getting the Ultrasonic now to clean my channel set band - after two years, that''s looking like it needs an "extra" cleaning - maybe the ultrasonic would be good for that.

I hear that you have to be careful with putting micropave in the ultrasonic though, or you may lose melee diamonds.

The sharper image ultrasonic is amazing! It was just on sale for 49 a couple of weeks ago. My fiance uses it every morning before work, and still gasps when she sees the sparkle rekindled even just after 1 day of wear. Highly recommended.

I just checked on the website - the Sharper Image one is on sale until the end of Feb, $49 with any other purchase.

Hey ya''ll right back!

I have not yet invested in an UltraSonic or an equivalent; but, my jeweler told me to microwave a small amount of glass cleaner to get it hot and dip my platinum/diamond e-ring in that. (I would be careful about white gold, as the ammonia could have a deteriorating effect on the plating.) It looks brand new after dipping, with a little swishing to get between crevices and underneath stones. The ammonia drys fast and leaves no residue. Then I buff the platinum on a soft cloth much like polishing silver. This method works beautifully for me.

We go back to my jeweler about once a month for a free routine cleaning and checking of stones.

I use jewelry cleaner that the jewelry stores sell. I''m scared of ultrasonics.

Now that I have my earrings, I use my SI Ultrasonic more. Before that, I''d use it here and there for my ring, but liked using a gel jewelry cleaner that comes with a tube and brush. I can''t think of what it is right now though...it works better than the blue jewelry cleaner that jewelers give you.

I use liquid dish soap and warm water. I soak my engagement ring in this solution for a few minutes, and then I use a soft toothbrush (a baby''s toothbrush, actually) and scrub gently. I dry the ring with a dish cloth. It works really well! One of these days I''ll probably get an US but I don''t have one yet.

I''m glad to hear that there are alternatives to ultrasonics. I was afraid I''d just have to live with a grungy ring, since I can''t stand the sound of an ultrasonic. (Yes, my superpower is apparently bat-like hearing. Not the one I would choose, believe me.)

It was... interesting, shall we say, to try to shop for ering settings. Many stores had their cleaner on, and I would only be able to get to a certain distance away before I''d stop dead and start to back away. The sales assistants mostly thought I was insane because they couldn''t hear anything. Fortunately, my bf is used to it.

Sharper Image ultrasonic. I clean my rings at least every second day. It is great for my eternity band, which seems to get dull pretty quickly, and awesome for EC stones, which collect dirt like crazy.

I''m another low-tech girl ... I put a dollop of Ajax dishwashing soap (the degreasing kind) on it, scrub it lightly with one of those small toothbrushes , and let it sit for a bit in rubbing alcohol (to avoid water spots). Voila! Shiny ....
