Hi All!

I’m not sure if this is the right spot for my question so if it’s not- I’m sure a mod will move it.

Anyway, I’m sending my ering to a well known jeweler that’s been used here on PS, but my first time working with them -if they make the piece for me.

Do you send your ring certified mail with insurance, I’m assuming? Or use Fed Ex, UPS, etc and not USPS? My ring is insured already but wondering with the post office and all the recent theft.

Also, I am super paranoid sending my ring out because many years ago I had my diamond swapped by a so called reputable jeweler so I’m definitely paranoid. What can I do to protect myself and my diamond?

I’m changing my ering setting and that’s why I’m sending it out so they can look at it and make recs.

Any help is appreciated. I’ve always worked with local jewelers but been burned before so decided to try one of the recommended ones from here.

Thanks!

Ask the jrwelrr to send you a label and use their insurance. That's what I do with DK when sending pricey stuff to him

I also ask to use the jeweler's label under their insurance. As far as the diamond being swapped out, I'd learn the unique inclusions on your diamond and where to find the lab inscription on the girdle.

"So called" is the right term to use int his situation as no truly reputable jeweler would do this.

Agree that you should ask the jeweler you are working with to send you a label so that their insurance covers you. And yes, learn the inclusions and inscription assuming it is certified, if you are concerned about swapping of stones.

If you are insured with Jewelers mutual then your ring is insured in transit to the jeweler, and while it is in their possession, and while it’s in transit back to you. So you don’t need to purchase additional insurance. I ship my rings with FedEx or UPS so the transit time is faster.

If you are insured some other way you will need to check your policy to see what is covered.

Thanks all! You all mentioned exactly what jeweler is doing- sending me a shipping label.
