Hi, I've bought a round brilliant cut diamond with the above specs and I'm looking for opinions on how good the cut is. HCA says the cut is great (1.5 - Excellent within TIC range), but I understand it's not a traditional 'ideal cut'. Can anyone tell me what the cut grade on this diamond would be? The certificate it came with does not grade the cut. Thanx

would expect a stone that looks several points larger than others of the same weight, and that has major obstruction issues

Ditto, but obstruction might not be an issue if you are not using it as a ring stone.

I am using it as a ring stone. What is obstruction?
Thanx

am unable to play the video on head obstruction here: https://www.pricescope.com/node/110156 ,,, have reported to admin

in any case, stone proportioned such that too many facets intake light from directly above the stone, thus when you lean over it at close range your body (head) blocks that direct light and the stone looks overly dark. Not a problem in earrings, say, because no large body is going to get close enough to your ears to inspect the stones in such proximity - my old stone below, I would expect yours to show a more severe effect.

Based on the specs, how did you know obstruction was a problem?
Thanx

Usually stones with shallower pavilion angles can have obstruction issues.

These are the kind of diamonds that will have excellent fire and sparkle scintillation and lousy brightness/contrast. If you knew she would stay in dark typed atmostpheres primarily with spot lighting as you rprimary illumination this would be fine.

What are the ideal pavilion and crown angles for a round?

Re: How good's the cut? D=57.9% T=59.0% C=32.9° P=40.3° rnd

Generally in the 40.7-41.0 degree zone for the pavilion angles and 34-35 degree zone for the crown. This information in and of itself though will not dictate the nature/character of the type of reflections you'll see but this is a good start. There are also other pavilion/crown combo's that work just as effectively too like 33.0 crown with a 41.4 pavilion etc. Numbers only tell part of the story. An ASET & IS image help complete the picture more.
