Hi,

So I’ve finally met the love of my life, and have been researching engagement rings for about 3 weeks now. I’ve learnt a lot from this forum - huge thanks to everyone here - and would much appreicate it to receive feedbacks on this diamond:

I’ve been set with 1.1 crt size, and the ACA branding - although the $ comes at premium, I know she will love it considering that we are not looking into upgrading later.
Been mostly searching between G-H and VS1-VS2 within $10,000 CAD budget.

What do you think about this diamond? (Also, one thing I was wondering... does Rose gold setting impact the color/performance of the diamond VS white gold settings?)

Thanks so much once again!!

You really can not go wrong with a diamond like that!

Very nice pick. :cool2:

If you are willing to drop the clarity, you could jump to F color for $100 more. I'd be tempted personally. Most people will see (and appreciate) a color bump. Very few people have the visual acuity to appreciate a VS1 stone over a good eye clean SI1 stone.

Food for thought. Here's the link to the F if you are interested.

Most rings will do the prongs in white gold to keep the diamond looking as colorless as possible and the band will be done in rose gold. If this is the case then no it won’t effect the color of the stone.

Hi, thank you very much for your input! I'm definitely taking a look at this stone - I have a quick question if you don't mind me asking:

On top of the clarity grade, I also noticed that the overall spec in Depth%, Table%, and Star% are lower compared to the original stone I was looking at. Although both stones are ACA cut grade, I'm just wondering if this will lower the sparkling/brilliance when seen in real life? What do you think?

Thank you once again

Hi, thank you for your input. I'll make sure to ask if the prongs do come in white gold/platinum with the RG band. THank you and have a good day!

Short answer:
Open two browser windows & do a side by side comparison of each stone rotating in the sparkle video view. Which one throws more fire? I did this last night & had a tough time deciding a winner. I think they are about equal.

Also, if there were issues of any magnitude, you would begin to see them show up in the images. However, if you look at the various images, you will see both stones are rock solid.

If I'm spending my money, I would have no problems buying either as both are very firey choices. However, my wife can easily see color and would love an F (coincidentally her existing stone is an H). And while it's minimal, the F stone actually yields about an extra 0.10mm of spread for a hair less carat weight!

Longer answer:
Depth is a derivative of all the various proportions of the diamond. So the table size, crown angle & pavilion angle are all playing together to ultimately effect crown height & pavilion depth which when combined with girdle thickness equate to total stone depth. So no, the shallower depth is not revealing in this case.

Smaller tables are sometimes preferred. As the table shrinks the upper girdle facets enlarge which is where rainbow light is produced; therefore, creating the ability for more rainbow light (fire). That said, we are effectively talking a 55 vs 57 table, both of which are within the ideal range so the effects are minimal.

Also, other factors come into play as diamond personality is never driven by a single value. Instead it's the summation of all the proportions working in harmony. For instance, although you didn't notice, the lower girdle facets are 78 in the alternate stone as opposed to 77. The longer LGF's help compliment the smaller table a little. Although it results in slightly less fat arrows, which is also visible by the slightly thicker chevrons (V's) at the bottom of the hearts image. Skinny chevrons = shorter LGF's and fatter arrows. Fat chevrons = longer LGF's and narrower arrows. Yet shorter LGF's can perform better in candle light and throw bigger flashes of fire, whereas longer LGF's do better in office lighting. Many believe a 77-78 is the perfect balance.

Stars are a minor facet and while they do play a role, it's less subtle. It can help fine tune other characteristics. Theoretically the larger the star, the more light will go throw and can create more fire & scintillation. But in reality it's the fact the stars are changing the upper girdle facets that is causing the bigger effect. Longer stars and steeper upper girdles work well on shallow crowns but not on steep crowns. Crowns within the 34.2-34.9 range, and coupled with a 54-57 table won't exhibit much difference with a 50-55 star.

I really want that 1.104 F when I upgraded my studs but there’s no comparable pair within my budget so I need to let it go :’(

@Donday Congratulations for finding the love of your life!
I have been eyeing this one, but I don’t have the budget to buy it :D
Idk why but I love how this one sparkle. But your pick have better clarity.

@sledge I am speechless, thanks for taking your time sharing this knowledge. That was great! I ended up really liking the stone you put and made a reservation for it - but I’m in a dilemma with another one now. Would you be able to look at the other stone I mentioned in another post? Thank you very much once again.
